The symbiote within Eva adeptly glossed over the detail of John’s death, but Cynaith felt this is a good point to test the symbiote’s strength over the host’s mind. With a psychic nudge, Cynaith temporarily pushed aside the symbiote’s control, allowing Eva to “wake up”.

Eva felt some mild confusion as the Black Devil before her suddenly meld into John’s visage, his front red with freshly spilled blood, his face locked in a surprised and fearful expression. Then she noticed the bloody knife on her clawed (?) hand, taking a step back. When her tentacles lurch backwards, only then did she realize her legs were no longer there.

All these sensations felt strangely foreign and natural at the same time, but it was all overwhelming as Eva tried to process what’s happening. Eva dropped the bloody knife, appearing to faint but was held firm by Cynthia beside her.

Eva turned to her sister, the remaining source of comfort and stability in this strange dream, but was dismayed when she saw Cynthia’s alien-like form.

“Eva, are you ok? You’ve defeated a Black Devil,” the alien Cynthia said cheerfully. “It means you passed the test!”

Eva could only nod dumbly as she recalled the vision she had moments before. Thinking about it seemed to summon back the choral hymns in her head, calling for he name. Eva could feel she was on the edge of a precipice: whether to return to reality, or stay in this dream.

I don’t want this, Eva thought as she covered her face, blocking the sight of John’s face, God, take me back to Your side!

With that, Eva opened her eyes to find herself back in her Saint’s robe, Cynthia (as a human now) congratulating her for not falling for the Devil’s mind-tricks. Eva cried as she hugged her sister tightly, glad that the previous sights were just a dream.

Cynaith grinned behind Eva’s ear as she consoled her, the symbiote within Eva having easily guided the host’s mind like a puppet. As Eva fully embraced her new “reality”, pink gel began to form around the fledgling Queen, ready to enter into her last phase.

Artist’s Note:
Cynaith was concerned whether a repeat of Tylix would happen, so she decided to test Eva’s symbiote before it fully matured.

By now, Eva mind is broken, fully controlled by the symbiote.
