Eva wasn’t sure why her mind drifted back to that sad incident months ago, but then she regained her focus, going back to calling numbers to look for her missing sister.
Besides her, the radio was left on to dispel the gloomy quiet of her small apartment. The radio was reporting a fire that have broken out in a warehouse by the Docks, but Eva wasn’t paying much attention.
Suddenly, there was an urgent knock on her door. Eva wasn’t expecting any guests, so she cautiously moved to her door and checked through the peep-hole. Eva couldn’t believe what she saw, she quickly ripped open the locks and flung the door wide open.
Standing in her doorway, wrapped in a shabby coat, was her missing sister, Cynthia!
Cynthia collapsed onto Eva the moment she saw her. It was then Eva noticed that Eva was bleeding, the blood dark red, almost purple, dripping down her sleeves and legs.
Eva carried her injured sister inside, reaching out for the phone to call for an ambulance. Cynthia suddenly grabbed the phone, stopping her from making the call.
“No ambulance,” she rasped weakly, “No police, they’re after me.”
Eva was experiencing a whirlwind of emotions: joy at finding her sister, shock at her injury, and bewilderment at her request. She decides to comply for now, seating her down, and then searching for her first aid kit. What’s important is that Cynthia is with her now.
