Eva - Page 5

A country girl in a big city, Eva was overwhelmed as she stepped off the bus, the large crowds a dizzying buzz of activity. Map in hand, it was no help at all as Eva was utterly unfamiliar with the landmarks. Just as she build up the courage to ask a stranger, a pair of hands suddenly grabbed her from behind, making her yelp in surprise.

The teasing laughter however, was familiar, and Eva turned to see that it was her sister that had surprised her. Cynthia looked very different from what she remembered, the young woman having blossomed into a full figure. Not only was she dressed provocatively, but she also carried herself with a confidence that was rarely seen back home.

Other than that, Cynthia affection for her was still the same, hugging and fussing over her little sister. Cynthia talked non-stop as she gave Eva a guided tour of the city, stopping by at an expensive restaurant for lunch. Eva felt very out of place in the well-dressed establishment, but Cynthia waltzed in like a regular. However, Eva's anxiousness evaporated once the food was served, mouth-watering dishes she have never seen before, topped off with a sundae dessert that was a rarity in the countryside.

Sated, they moved on towards Cynthia's apartment. The area she lives in looks high-class, and seemed to be filled with young couples, some of them making out brazenly in the open. Eva blushed furiously at the public display of affection, but Cynthia laughed at her prudence, saying it's common in the city.

Her apartment unit was huge. Eva was wide-eyed throughout the visit. The beds, the bathtubs, the couch, everything was bigger than those in their old house. Then, she showed her a spare bedroom, saying Eva can stay here for the night.

Caught up in the day's events, Eva sensed the weight behind those words. Cynthia's letter was an invitation to live with her, but that was not what Eva came for.

"Sis, when will you come back home? To Father and Mother?"

Cynthia's face darkened at the mention of Father, and Eva knew she had pushed the wrong button.
