For her small resistance, Rose was rewarded with a lunge that pushed her down hard, the monster's armored arm slamming down on her throat. Rose's scream ended with a wet choke as Cynaith climbed on top of her, its face inching close to hers.

Cynaith was in an utterly dark mood, her face distorting as the slime recedes from her jaws, revealing her sharp teeth. Rose could feel its killing intent as the usually silent monster now hissed and growled at her.

With Cynaith on top, Rose could hardly move at all. A part of her have accepted the inevitable, glad even that her tiring ordeal would finally end. As the monster reared its head, Rose squeezed her eyes shut and murmured her last prayer.

Then the monster fell onto her neck...

And stayed there. Rose waited for a long moment before she exhaled, having unknowingly held her breath. Gingerly, she pushed against her assailant, but there was no reaction. Beside her, the two dogs(?) seemed to be confused as well.

Is the monster dead?
