“Yeah?” Liz said in a calm voice while internally screaming.
“You know… trans?”
Thoughts raced through Liz’s head. Thoughts such as Jesus Christ thank god finally the densest egg I’ve ever seen and Wait fuck yes hell yeah and I thought it was never gonna happen at this rate, why now, but I’m not complaining. Instead of any of these thoughts, she said, “Oh, okay, cool. Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help.”
Kelvin was visibly relieved. “Thank you for being so cool about this,” they? she? said.
“Well, it’d be pretty hypocritical if I wasn’t,” Liz said. “Given that my gender is also transed. But yeah, if you want me to use different pronouns or a different name just let me know.”
“I still have to think about names,” Kelvin said. “I thought Kelly, but I dunno, maybe it’s too on the nose…”
“Well, there’s no rush,” Liz said.
“Uh… but can you try using, um, she/her for me? Well, like, when other friends aren’t around, I guess.”
“I’ll do my best not to out you,” Liz reassured her. “But yeah, let me know if you need help figuring out any medical or legal stuff, or if you want to look at clothes or whatever together.”
“That sounds great,” Kelvin said. “I already have some clothes that I ordered online but some of it is probably the wrong size.”
“Well, I’m not really the most knowledgeable about fashion, but I don’t mind taking a look,” Liz said. She felt a squirming anticipation in her belly. Kel was gonna look so cute.
