Weekly Update (11-17-2025)

Not the best week, honestly.

Had a fair amount of annoying IRL stuff, sadly. Nothing individually too bad, but all together it was just a lot. :/ Didn't end up feeling up to writing the two year retrospective, but I will do that sometime this week for sure. I do want to, it just takes a decent amount of mental energy to sit down and compose something more structured like that.

On a somewhat related note, my birthday is this Wednesday. Feels weird that that's come around again already. Can't say this was one of the better years in my life in general, but the progress I've made in Noblesse over that time has definitely been one brighter spot in all of it. I am very proud of the game, and how it's coming along.

Anyway, I'll be 35 soon. I might have related this last year, because it's a story I like a lot, but as I've gotten older without really accomplishing as much as I might have liked, I often find myself thinking back to the scene in Plutarch's Life of Caesar. Probably apocryphal, because no one could accuse Plutarch of accuracy (if you want an actually convincing biography of Caesar, I suggest you read Suetonius's. I definitely felt like I was reading about a real person who had existed in that one), but I still always found it compelling. Caesar, himself having failed to accomplish much by about my age, is looking at a statue of Alexander the Great, who created an empire spanning much of the known world by 33, and lamenting that he's accomplished nothing of note. But, of course, we as the reader know he'll go on to be just as successful, if not more so.

Basically, some people burn bright and hot and flame out early, others get better over time. I like to think I'm the latter. I have no reason to think my best work isn't yet to come, and I appreciate everyone who's joined me on this journey. ^^ Looking forward to continuing it, through the end of Noblesse and into many more projects to come.

Anyway, retrospective post to follow this week for real, and I think I'm putting off what I wanted to discuss about plans for next update until next week as well. Hopefully this week will be less frustrating and more relaxing.
