Rise of the Dragon King (Novel) Public Preview

The Dominion of Al-Kerath was supposed to be a land of opportunity—but instead, it needed a liberator.

When his sorcery and his heritage conspired to close off Leo's path in life, he left all he knew behind to seek his fortune in Heliopolis, the shining gem of the desert, with no more than the clothes upon his back and a single tome of secrets. What he found instead was a beautiful but stagnant kingdom, its wealth and people alike shackled by the corrupt Magnathi lords and those few who still opposed them all but defeated.

Yet a man who could free the Dominion—and its lovely, defiant princess—from the Magnathi’s chains might just become its next king, and Leo brought with him a secret that could give him power enough to manage it. More than sorcery, that secret held the promise of summoning; to make pacts with the spirits of the very land, and wield their power as his own. Yet, to use that power in full as his ancestors had, Leo would need more than just a pact with the ancient draconic Titan Zethraxion: he would need a Circle of women to stand beside him, daring enough to share in great power and danger alike…

Okay, time for something different, in case anyone is interested while waiting for the public release of Chapter 16. XD

This is a project I've been working on on the side--a full-length fantasy novel, likely the first in a series. The links below are to a free preview of the prelude + first ten chapters, about 50k words total. I've edited and refined these significantly since my prior patreon preview (the prelude and first chapter have been rewritten somewhat to improve flow and clarity, I added a new scene to introduce some things, and Chapter 1 was split in two, plus minor additions and edits throughout), and also improved them in other ways (better formatting, table of contents, etc.). For anyone who's interested in reading, I'd be happy to hear what you think overall!

A few specific areas I'm interested in thoughts on if you have any (though just overall thoughts are fine too): (a) How does the text styling and placement on the cover feel to you? (b) Does the actual text formatting feel okay? (c) Is anything unclear/confusing/etc. in the story?
