Executive Dysfunction explained (New buttons comic)
Added 2025-10-21 12:55:55 +0000 UTCHello hello!
For ADHD Awareness Month this year, I’ve reworked the Buttons Comic that explains Executive Dysfunction and why we sometimes just can’t get started. I wanted it to be even easier to understand. I hope I succeeded (because it took me several weeks to get it all done).
Here is the old comic, if you remember this one! I guess it’s more correct to say that I wanted to turn the panel-comic format into a more comprehensive info graphic.

I’ll show you how I go about making these comics!
First, I started writing down the points I wanted to illustrate, then made some sketches and arranged and layouted the whole thing in Miro. It can be a bit hard to figure out what to explain in what order so that people really understand what I’m trying to say. I usually end up switching around the layout with big comics like this one 5-7 times.

I then go ahead and turn the sketches into final drawings on my ipad. It’s a lot back and forth exporting and important, drawing on the ipad but editing the actual comics on my PC in photoshop.

I then finalized the drawings and started putting it into social media format. I really wanted to turn this into posters because of how useful I thought this comic was, so I wanted to adapt it into poster format later on.

Turns out that wasn’t a good idea and I ended up scraping this entirely and built everything up in poster format after all. The colors and layout took a lot of tinkering, but I think it turned out really nicely!

And of course I had to spend a few days switching the layout back into social media format lol. I wish I could simply draw all the important info stuff and not have to bother with different formats, but then again, each format increases how many people the information I’ve drawn can reach.
Here now the final social media comic:

And because you're my favorite loyal patrons (eheh) you're getting part two of this comic already today, while others will only see this next week :). There's a third part but that one isn't nearly as finished enough, since it talks a bit more about neurology, and that needs to be spot on before I can responsibly share it!

And yeah, I made this comic into posters because I thought it might be one of the most informative comics I’ve made :) I don’t think I’ll make other posters for quite a while (and only have 50 of this one on stock). Though, if there is something you’d really love to see printed, I can see if I can make it / layout it into printing format!
If you this as a poster, you can get one here <3: http://adhd-alien.com

Thank you for everything!

This is fantastic! It's a great analogy for sharing with friends/family, and some really good advice too. Thanks for making these! :D
