ADHD paralysis coping part 1 (WIP)

I already got the next comic preview for you! And it’s finally the start of the coping series, wohoo~

This series is really one where having a research assistant has been so valuable. Quite a few areas where I learnt something new but also got reprimanded by my assistant and asked to change the wording so as to not make information incorrect.

I can’t actually judge if people will enjoy this page because it’s something new - or if people will be disappointed because it doesn’t list any concrete tips yet. There will be plenty of concrete tips on the next two pages after this one, but I really wanted to explain this stuff as well so that you can make your own coping strategies. What do you think?

Rambling about comics
I’m trying hard to figure out whether I should keep making in-depth comics like this or make more “simple” relatable ones. But I guess there is no point in breaking my head over this. I’ll see what fits best and what I want to do when it comes to it. Next comic series should be about working memory!

Back to working on the book soon
I will have another long, big book deadline coming up next so I apologize in advance if I go radio silent again. The book stuff is just a lot of work and most days all I do is work on the book and then pass out.

Hey, I don’t know your life but I just wanted to say that we love you and even if you never make anything else I’d still be so glad for all you’ve given us. Obviously I’d love to see more, but more than that I hope you’re taking care of yourself. Wishing you the best!! ❤️

Hey, haven't heard from you recently. Are you alright? Everything fine there? *hug*

I’ve really been enjoying these more in-depth comics!! You’ve articulated things things that have always felt blurry and given me the language to communicate better. It’s legitimately helped me understand my ADHD a lot more, and I’ve been kinder to myself for it. Thank you ☀️ Really looking forward to the working memory series!! I hope you find a comfortable work time balance between these more labour-intensive comics and the shorter memey ones: both are a gift!

this looks lovely! I'm looking forward to sharing it with friends to help understand each other 💖

I feel so seen! I've been finding body double Twitch streams lately. I really enjoy ones that use pomodoro timers for work and break too. It really helps me break up the day. Thanks for this, great work!

Hey there! I love this and how you use color and the candel metaphor ❤️ I use nearly all of the things you describe in the comic. I love the mix of comics very much knowledge and the everyday live. So follow the dopamin, we will praise you either way 🙏 🌻🌻🌻

Hello Pina Once again This was an absolute smack I actually sent in a message few weeks back I would appreciate if you gave it a read Thanks

This may seem like just the tip of the iceberg, but I think even the basics of Externalizing are really important!! I'm excited to show this (the final version, I mean!) to people in my life in hopes of helping them understand. It certainly helps me :) As far as simple vs indepth... I think taking deep concepts and making them super-digestable like this is a talent of yours. Hard work, no doubt, but there's an undeniable level of quality in the results. Simple comics help widen the audience, complex comics deepen their understanding... it sounds like a difficult balance to strike!

Maybe only partially relevant, but I wrote a Python script to play clock chimes on my laptop. Having an audible cue helps with time blindness and sometimes provides a “break point” to disrupt focus from distractions.

At least for me, this feels quite actionable/concrete. As a former educator, if someone had handed me this graphic, I would have been able to infer a collection of strategies I could model/practice with my ADHD/neurodivergent kiddos. (To say nothing of using them to help myself.) I'm so glad that others can find these tactics more quickly through your work. <3

Also, this is more an autism thing, but I found a website that explains demand avoidance from an autistic perspective and it's awesome and I wanna share it with people: https://www.pdasociety.org.uk/what-is-pda-menu/what-is-demand-avoidance/
