Summary
Finished and coded all CGs (as of my last check in)
Finished one additional art I really wanted to complete
Pushed updates to EA.
Art
As I mentioned in my Monday check in, I managed to finally finish all the remaining CGs and get them coded in the game. I also pushed that update out to beta.
I had some minor issues with Yren's and had to re-do part of it but hopefully it's all looking good now.
I admit that while the colour slider is really useful for allowing a huge amount of variety in terms of skin tone, it comes with some major drawbacks - one of which is that I can't see what Wil is going to look like until the art is broken up and the CG coded.
This means that sometimes the CG art has to be adjusted after I get it coded and spot weird issues with it that weren't visible until the colouriser got it and chewed it up.
Although I really like the idea of the colouriser, I think that I'm planning to go back to recolouring by hand with my next game. For my art style which doesn't rely on cell shading, I think that rather than solving problems it simply shifts the problems to a lateral position.
I would much rather simplify back to recolouring manually where I have more control over what the art looks like.
Anyway, that's a whole other topic. The colour slider is still a marvel.
It's just not the tool for me.
In other news, I now have almost all the backgrounds for this game. There are just a couple more that I had to get redone for various reasons. But yeah. I FINALLY have most of the artwork.
Coding and Other Stuff
Not really much outside of coding the CGs. I've been doing some minor coding in the next chapter but nothing major since I haven't wanted to delve into sprite expressions (ugh) and there's not much else I can code without adding new assets.
Upcoming Week
Preparing for public release in a few days.
I need to get the public guide set up though that is never too complicated. It's also time for me to start thinking about the bonus stories for the next episode. I will be once more delving into some POV scenes for the events of Chapter 5 so I need to get those fully outlined so I can start writing them. I only have loose outlines at the moment.
(Though admittedly, writing POV content for existing scenes isn't too hard since it's really just about internal dialogue for the most part.)
Other than that, with public release of Chapter 5 pending, I will be putting more of my focus into the coding of Chapter 6 and maybe some of the art in the upcoming weeks.
