Spoiler: Harry Potter, Terran Mage Corps - a Star Wars Xover

This is a 550 word spoiler for my plot story with Harry Potter and Earth in Star Wars. I hope to have a fortnightly schedule of updates.

Usually, to rouse a sleeping mage was a proverb, one that quite often ended with the offender being transfigured into some unfortunate and humiliating form. Toads were popular in the stories. However, for the Officer of the Watch on the Orbital Battlestation that circled Earth, the Terran Homeworld, at an altitude of two-hundred and fifty miles, it wasn’t a proverb, but his duty. Besides, this particular Mage was reportedly an easygoing sort, well-liked by his crew, who were enjoying a bit of downtime while their Interstellar Cruiser was docked on the newly built Lunar Ring Shipyard for refitting.

“Sir. Mage Captain Potter will be on the bridge shortly.” he reported, lowering the phone. Anyway, he was fairly sure that it wasn’t possible for one of Earth’s magic-wielding children to turn him into a newt down the telephone. A demand for coffee wasn’t a bad exchange if it kept their guest from subjecting the bridge crew to unwanted Homo Sapiens-Bufonidae transformations.

“Good, good.” the Station’s Officer Commanding remarked distractedly, his hand swiping through the holographic display, examining recordings that had caused the alarm to be raised, an unannounced opening of a hyperspace window on the far edge of Sol System followed by the signs of a sensor sweep through it.

As it turned out, keeping half an eye on the blast doors to the battle station’s bridge was a completely redundant effort, the wizard simply flickering into existence there on the bridge. He was a youthful sort, windswept and with a few visible scars, with many more littering the armoured dragonskin greatcoat draped loosely across his shoulders, appearing a little out of place amongst the uniformed officers and ratings of the United Nations Space Exploration and Defence – uncharitably referred to as UNSpED.

“You rang?” Potter remarked to the commanding officer, his eyes flicking briefly to the Officer of the Watch, a twist of amusement appearing as if he could hear the various newt-related thought processes there.

The captain drew up on the holographic table the relevant diagrams that displayed the critical event, but, before he could make any explanation, another siren rang out, and the battlespace management display showed another hyperspace window snap open, and this time there was a clear report of something being disgorged, a hundred screens displaying alarms as the report on their sensors grew and grew.

“Sir! It’s transmitting!” a rating yelled across the many electronic alarms.

At the holographic table, glances were swiftly exchanged, and the mage nodded.

“On the speaker, Mr. Johnson, if you would.” the Station Captain ordered.

“-without dishonour. I repeat this is the battlecruiser Shadow of Mandalore, I request we be allowed asylum in Terran space without dishonour.

Everyone except the wizard seemed lost for words, though even he looked surprised as he leaned over the table, keying in the microphone.

“Battlecruiser Shadow of Mandalore, this is Captain Potter, Terran Mage Corps. Asylum?” the Officer of the Watch could hear the unspoken words ‘why the hell does a Mandalorian battlecruiser want asylum!

Captain Potter. We request asylum without dishonour. We wish to retain our language and our armour, something which is now denied to us on our homeworld. Sol System is the only sector of Mandalorian Space that has sovereignty to give us that. We are all that is left of Old Mandalore.
