A lizard meets a baby daggerfly.
Daggerflies are ambush predators with radial wings and a pointed body. They hover at high altitude, using specialized eyes to scan the ground underneath them. When something is detected, daggerflies drop onto, and impale their prey. Whatever they pin down is digested in place, using a stomach that they evert like a starfish.
Naturally, daggerflies are terrifying to lizards.
The babies, however, are harmless. Baby daggerflies are scavengers that gnaw at plants and animal carcasses until they're large enough to hunt. If you're interseted in biology or ecology, sighting one of the babies is a rare treat-- just watch out for older relatives!
