My gaming circle consists of gamers that loved the original FF7 back in the 90’s. We praised the story, the characters, music and the materia system the most. Not one of us can take these remakes seriously. There are many that strongly agree with your thoughts and those who can’t handle your criticisms I believe to be a loud minority and those that never really played the old final fantasy’s back in the day.

The Bank of Solaris

I haven't heard anyone describe the issues I took with FF7 remake in such an articulate way. I've been watching a friend stream it, and a lot of people told me "try approaching it as a sequel" Even viewing and trying to experience it as a sequel, It feels padded out, the pacing feels very off, as if it's always interrupting itself to do something else. Example; The plate crushing sector 7 was a very tense moment from the time you learn about it in the OG. In remake, it takes forever for them to get out of the train graveyard because they decided to put an Aerith flashback section. The whole time I'm going "Oh my god we need to get to sector 7" while Aerith breaks down and cries about a memory. Yes the memory is sad, but the game doesn't understand that it could have done this flashback earlier when it was appropriate for focusing on Aerith's past. The OG was able to make you understand Aerith's situation, feel sad about it, and not interrupt a very urgent situation to do it. FF7 Remake feels like such a mess with it's story beats. I HAVE been enjoying little things and character interactions of FF7 remake that show a lot more of the cast and their views and bonds with other characters. But it doesn't really make up for the changes they made to the story, feels like it undermines the points and impact the OG had. That's enough rambling, thanks for the podcast and I appreciate what you guys do a lot and rewatch your stuff on YouTube regularly. I really like hearing your perspectives on some of my all time favorite games, I was so happy when I found your channel.
