A little hard to listen to at points because it is frustrating to hear how close he is to comprehension. The point of the media is to share the truth. The truth is that 10 years ago republicans decided to create an alternative universe. We never had to have fact checkers before Trump because people didn’t say such blatantly false shit all the time. In my desperate attempt to find more content on par with Channel 5's, I came across Nick Shirley's YouTube channel a few weeks before the Minneapolis video went viral. I found the content to be inferior in many ways. Andrew's videos have always been about documenting various ways of life and questioning why people live or think the way they do. While I appreciate Andrew letting people speak there’s so much cognitive dissonance here. I think that the allowing for blatantly false information, When he doesn’t at least offer a counter factual, can get framed as agreement. Again I get the point is to let him speak, but a lot of people are hearing about this for the first time and this creates false impressions which is the opposite of journalism. But the thing that I’d specifically call out is allowing Chicago to be used as a boogeyman. Chicago isn’t anywhere near the dangerous hellhole as the right likes to make it. If you look up the places with the highest rates of gun violence and homicide, none of them are Chicago. If anything the city is thriving and still a massive subsidizer of typically red districts or areas both in the state and out of it. It’s also the most affordable of the big American cities with max rent usually around 3200 in the bougiest areas. In most of the city, pricing is between $1900 and $2200 a month. So it’s a safe, prosperous, yet affordable city. I honestly hope Andrew that you’ll do some coverage of Chicago. The whole place isn’t O Block as so many seem to think. the discussion over what is causing the increase in housing prices is fascinating. i would like to see more rigourous mathematical research into the issue. but i'm a nerd. realistically the factors affecting availability of middle class homes and the factors affecting say, section 8 housing availability, are different. and there's some sort of pipeline between the two, ie, ideally the poorest would get section 8, then make enough money to move out of it, but there's the "missing middle" housing where it's hard to get housing a step up from section 8, so we have too many people vying for section 8 and such. i maintain some sort of "commie block" style housing would close this gap, but that sort of housing is economically discouraged for developers as the margins are quite small when compared to cranking out mcmansions. ideally there would be government funding to build affordable housing in a way that pleases developers so they go along with it, with the biggest enemy likely being anti-tax break libertarian types. but if we can give tax cuts for data centers, why not tax cuts for affordable housing builds? (has the benefit of construction jobs as well.)i am digressing though, my main theory is that the immigrant supply/demand housing argument is applicable only to the cheapest most government funded housing, while the "billionaire landlords" argument is more applicable to the missing middle housing a step up from government funding housing. it would be proper to include sources here, alas, this is a patreon comment so i dont care.

Like Andrew said; to a degree, I think I can agree with Nick on some of these problems. I can understand the frustration. But the issue is that I frequently disagree with his ‘solutions’. Ultimately, they lack depth. He seems to look at lots of these problems from a single dimension. I don’t feel like he tries to understand different perspectives, and either ignores or is unaware of certain intricacies. That is just my opinion. Which is quite frankly, absolutely meaningless. But honestly, I respect his opinion. I live in Wyoming, and I listen to people regurgitate many of the things Nick said on a daily basis. Some of the vouchers for 3-4 bedroom in the Bay Area are up to $5,000-$6,000. Which also keeps the rental prices up. So there is some merit supply and demand.
