He writes on Mexico and Morena. Here's his latest, which sheds light on these protests and does a good job of explaining the obvious contradictions — the elderly "Gen Z" protest, the lack of any substantive criticism of Sheinbaum, and the part where a protestor threw a Molotov cocktail-looking thing at the police. According to this article, the murder rate is down 37% in Sheinbaum's first term, which Hackbarth acknowledges means little to those still touched by violence. (I'd love to know how that's happened. Did they go the Baltimore route? Another path to lower crime is what Bukele did, making deals with cartels. I don't know, though I support Morena.

Criminalization and law encorcement doesn't work. Has there ever been a genuine discussion about what happens if the drug trade becomes legal, regulated, and supervised?

We ended up binging the rest of the videos on Canal Cinco together. So thanks for that C5. Plus, we talked thru this video afterwards and he thought it was odd that the crowd was much older than they were leading on and was glad to see this side as in the spaces he’s in online things are heavily skewed in favor of Sheinbaums admin. he’s a big fan of her.

This video does seem like a bit of a step down in comparison to some of the other stories you’ve covered in Mexico. I think there could have been more room to explore the “astroturf” origins of this movement in mexico. Not saying the sentiments of these folks are wrong or misguided.

2025-11-22 02:11:20 +0000 UTCGreat video, as always! this is interesting, because this kinda movement is exactly the type of thing the U.S. govmt would support through back channels to destabilize Mexico.. especially at a time with "socialists" in power. So i have some doubts about whose really mobilizing protests like these. However, cartel influence has been so devastating, for so long, it's not hard to imagine things coming to a head at some time or another. Would love to see a follow up video with some history & context with further investigation! Stay strong & independent Mexico! And keep that shit rockin' Andrew/Josuesy!
