I lived in New York for a few years and while it's true that folks do condenscend to the bridge and tunnel crowd (Jersey, Long Island and Staten Island) I don't recall hearing much disrespect to Philly. I interpret is as an inferiority complex on behalf of Philadelphians (and I've noticed the same thing with Bostonians). Similarly, I was raised on SF with a healthy dose of resentment to Los Angeles, but found that, sports rivalries aside, Angelinos don't reciprocate the hate. I live in LA now. A while back my Mom asked me, "what do people in LA think about San Francisco?" My answer, "we don't!"
