Inside the Apache Stronghold's War to Save Sacred Land: 5CAST w/ Andrew Callaghan (#8) ft. Naelyn Pike

Here is our coverage of the current situation unfolding in Arizona regarding the Apache Stronghold’s fight to save their ancestral homeland from being exploited by a mining company called Resolution Copper. For our infield segment, our Native Affairs Correspondent Jaque Fragua attends a resistance rally in Superior, AZ and for the main interview today, I’ll be sitting down with activist Naelyn Pike, who is at the center of this unfolding land dispute.

Great story. Love the Mac Dre bobble head. I need that in my life

US is the largest wood producer because it imports a sh*tload from Canada. That's about to change.

s/o to the crew for covering this, and for continuously trying to shed light on Indigenous issues. Indigenous activism rarely gets the spotlight, let alone a platform to talk in depth about Indigenous sovereignty and rights so this is HUGE. Also loved seeing Twila in the clips, she is a gatherer on the reservation and takes folks out to learn about our ancestral foods that grow naturally on the land. There is a beautiful documentary called Gather on Netflix that covers more about N'de (Apache) foodways where you can hear from Twila as well as other native tribes that are revitalizing native food ways. On a different note, I know you mentioned doing a segment on language revitalization. Not sure if it's too late but ya'll should look into Ekvn-Yefolecv Ecovillage in Alabama. They are an intentional community of Indigenous Mvskoke people who have come together for the purpose of practicing language, cultural and ecological sustainability. It's really incredible what they are doing. Marcus Briggs-Cloud would be the person to hit up! Ahííye

You guys keep taking it to the next level. This was beyond inspiring. Hearing her speak about the relationship she has to her land and her incredible fighting spirit made me reflect on my relationship to my home and what I want can do for my community. Also C5.now sounds incredible, realling hoping that your approach to journalism goes global. Peace and Love to you

Maybe mass electrification is a bad thing and Society needs to operate on less electricity per person...

My family is from the Carolinas and I'm really glad to hear you're exploring the Gullah culture, Andrew. I should have known you would be locked in, but hearing you mention the predatory practices with land ownership in Hilton Head while being in a family that had land swindled away and then developed into hotels/properties really just reminded me of how good of a journalist you are.
