This whole situation hurts me so much. I agree with protesting and I understand that it comes with strong feelings and opinions but also it’s not right to be damaging the small businesses and communities like Little Tokyo. These businesses and people in the community are trying to protect of what’s left of mine and their culture from what happened during the internment camps in World War Two. We are prideful in our Japanese American culture and it’s already hard trying to face the challenges of raising prices, litter, and drug problems. For example the oldest ramen shop in Little Tokyo had two guys walk up to the business and say fuck 12, cursing at the owner when the owner was telling them to stop respectfully while spray painting and threatening the owner that he would hurt him if he tried to stop them from spray painting. The community does not deserve this. I understand that with every crowd there is no pure good or bad. But let’s try to have more compassion. This shit really breaks my heart to see. I’m not even at home right now. I’m in Japan studying abroad. But seeing this deeply angers me.

One shouts riots and vandalizing private property and the other saying detaining illegals not lawfull. Questions, 1, Why detaining illegals not lawfull? The very least they can defend their decision and start process of becoming legal imigrants front of court right? 2, Why is there soft language where the protest is actually becomes violant and desctructive.. for a person like this who not in the US sees this as go easy on rioters and do nothing to protect citizens values. 3, Is detaining an illegal automatically follows deportation? The important part of this for me was seeing the LAPD show up to defend ICE. They are not supposed to work with ICE. Even if they were there to "keep the peace" they could at least speak to the crowd about what they're doing to get rid of ICE in the community and possibly what the people can safely and legally do about it. If anything, the LAPD were more aggressive than ICE was.

I have to say I'm really disappointed with some of the behavior in this comment section. Some are pointing out that this feels unusually partial for C5, asking why that is, or asking for the context behind these riots, and all of them have been quickly met with name-calling and insults. Regardless of how obvious the answer may seem to you, try to explain it, and certainly don't default to childish insults just because someone asked a question on a subject they may know nothing about. Especially so when one of the common, if not the most common, narratives on this situation is simply that illegal immigrants have been detained. For many, being in the country illegally seems like a reasonable enough justification for being detained. People are regularly detained for less. If you want to change people's minds, give them the information to do so themselves.
