Thank you channel 5

Isaac McGrgeor

Go abuse more animals. Actually. Kill yourself

Snarpsta

bro u sound like a piece of shit

tinybeaver710

That bird owner is garbage. Not only did he leave him to die that cage is absolutely despicable. I hope that owner died.

Snarpsta

Rented the same house for 40 years! Wow

WRATH.1776

Insurance is not a “bet”. Nobody is wagering their life when they get health insurance. No one is wagering their house for a payout if it gets destroyed. That is so weird to say. You are so weird.

Kinneychild

Hey Andrew and the Channel 5 crew! I’m with the Pasadena Tenants Union and we wanted to let you guys know that if you are interested in doing any interviews with us about Pasadena landlords lobbying the City to bypass rent control protections for fire victims, price gouging, and evictions please reach out! We are actively organizing to fight this and the more press we get around this issue the better. Thank you for the invaluable work you guys are doing and I hope you and your loved ones are safe!!

Jessica Calvillo

This is such a horrible situation. If the insurance companies don't or can't help then it shows more then ever we need a real solution to helping our citizens

Tory McArthur

Andrew I have been a patron member here since you started I think. This is the most gutting journalism you have ever put up. It hurts my soul to watch this.

Andrew Matson

would you consider making this public / free? i would love to share

green gobbling

wut

Eli Gaultney

Bot identified.

Andy

I lived and saw through this tragedy. This coverage is amazing, the absolute truest to the experience we are having in this community. Dena strong!

Andy

Did she say she rented and lived in he house for 40 years? Holy crap she's gonna get he bare minimum

Max

fuck man... this hurts watching. stay strong LA <3 :,(

Pablo Wah

I love how Andrew immediately changed their attitude by asking about happy memories.

Dragoonz

My hometown of Lahaina burned to the ground too. Can’t help but compare the similarities. Truly a hard watch.

Herzain

I wonder how much “actuarial” profits they made this year 🖕

mud

Just wanna say yall are getting better and better at this every time a big event happens now im like “can’t wait to see what canal cinco has to say about it”. Yall are really at every important development at once it’s really impressive just how you manage to be at all of these places at the right time it’s very respectable and I imagine it’s a lot harder than it looks

Liam Rothwell-Pessino

So honest question I'm thinking about now, and would love to hear other's thoughts: what do you do if you can't get home insurance after a company withdraws? It seems to me that you earnestly look for somewhere else to live. Actuaries are scarily good at what they do. But I know that's really hard to do, and it probably sounds heartless right now.

Eli Gaultney

In this case, it seems fairly justified for the insurance company to withdraw from the area based on the actuarial science. Clearly they were correct in their estimates. Insurance works as a bet between you and the company that something terrible won't happen. The whole thing doesn't work if the insurance company is forced to take terrible bets.

Eli Gaultney

Hey bro, you ok? This kind of trauma will shake you. Hit me up if you need. I’m a professional

Sean OHagen

How can we outside of the US financially assist the families?

Louis Venter

Fox spent hours on YouTube live blaming the democrats for lack of water pressure at the top of hills.

Carlos

Insane. How’s that even poss to call it as insurance.

Miki

I imagine they had a good relationship with the owners otherwise they’d have been priced out. I had friends paying 5-6k per month to for two bedroom houses in Pasadena.

Carlos

Was about to move my little family to Pasadena two years ago from Anaheim. We always talk about the fires as 2020-2021 was a big dire year. Ended up in the mountain west instead. It is heart breaking to see these streets we drove up and down admiring the houses completely destroyed and the families in them devastated. So sorry for these people and their decades of memories. Luckily memories can’t be destroyed by a fire.

Carlos

They don’t cover earthquakes, floods, fires..basically anything that can destroy your home isn’t covered. It’s absurd. At this points home owners insurance has become just box that needs to be checked for a mortgage yet doesn’t do anything.

Carlos

Too brutal. How is it legit for insurance companies to take money from these ppl for insurance coverage and dont cover when ppl need? Genuinely wondering how insurance companies can get away with it.

Miki

how the fuck can an insurance company just cancel people's insurance wtf

Bryn

Thanks for getting her email.

Allan

Climate change is a corporate scam

youmebangbang

I lost my house and so did my whole block. I never seen so much organized confusion in all my life. I'm still processing it but I'm moving upward and onward. I'm putting my insurance into rebuilding concrete and metal roof multi family housing now because we need it more than ever. I'm from Pasadena and grew up in Altadena and I'll be damned if I'm going to let them turn us into Lahaina. I'm not leaving and neither is my community.

Breezy Leezy

Yeah the actuary subreddit was talking about how risk premiums where like 3x the regulation limit and only getting worse with climate change, obviously the insurer wont cover that. Apparently same reason as why a lot of flood insurance in Florida is through the NFIP. I'm no authority on the matter so would like some more info, just did some brief reading.

Andrew Finn

Listening to them cry over all they have lost while they stand there looking at the smouldering ruins of their home is just heart breaking. Definitely couldn't help but tear up a bit. I wish them all the best I hope everyone effected can get on their feet again after this tragedy. Edit: Also fuck State Farm and any other insurance company denying claims in a time like this. You can't opt out of insurance in a lot of places and what is the point in even paying if you get nothing but a middle finger when you need it.

SmolPotato

I’m sure you know but there’s also a sick graff. scene down here in Asheville.

William Royer

Andrew I’m a true fan and do not want this to be miss conceived because I do think this story needs to be told. That being said I think you should come check in on Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee after the hurricane. We are still struggling and the story should be heard.

William Royer

Thanks for covering this so quickly. It’s so sad. Please mention the role of proposition 103 in insurance policies not being renewed. I find the framing of State Farm’s decisions in this video to be ignorant at best. There is always a premium they would be willing to insure at, but when it is illegal for them to charge that premium, they simply made the rational decision to not renew some policies.

Jacob Anderson

PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN🙏 My cousin's house has burned down and anything would help. They have literally lost EVERYTHING. https://gofund.me/bfc7fd59 Please help my friend! I used to play Xbox games with him in high school and their home burned down and they have lost everything in the fire. Now I want to help any way I can. https://gofund.me/1dc432d5 These are the only 2 people I know and can help that are experiencing the catastrophic damage from the fires in LA.

Arely Ochoa

Thank you for covering Altadena. A lot of working class families have been there for YEARS.

Melanie Gudino

Heartbreaking...

Mrein

I’ve seen this in the state of Washington. I’m not sure about miles but far enough to make you trip.

Angel Andrade

So the wind can blow embers and start fires miles away? Crazy.

D Figueroa

I appreciate there being zero background music just raw emotions and coverage.

Jacob Serrano

Hey all, I'm selling tornado insurance. Tornado alley residents not eligible. Also, I own air now. You'll get a bill soon. Fucking shit.

Elias Roberts

Living in the Central Valley, this video articulates how close to home this current disaster really is. These people are my friends, neighbors and fellow Americans. Thank you for giving them a voice

Ryan Jolley

Thank you, stay safe!

Jeff Adkins

Parker

Thank you Andrew and Channel 5

Shock and Awesome

fuck state farm for fucking the home owners over

Nathan Espinosa

breaks my heart

Markus Videsäter

I realize now why I find these interviews to be so much more informative than CNN or FOX or any mainstream outlet. Its the people. These are their lived experiences, and there isn't a facade of editing and theater like regular channels. No one is going to watch that and miss the reality that these people are going through and how raw that emotion truly is.

Zak Shah

Felt physically sick listening to that last family. Actually gut wrenching.

Sean S.

Thank you Channel 5. God bless LA.

Zac Haffey

spoiler alert: no rapping in this video, there’s already enough fire

mashanu

Damn.. everything ripped from these people, future unknown and all they want back is pictures & memories. Heartbreaking

yaboi

insurance is just as much as a scam as health care is in this country …

mashanu

heart breaking

Kaytlin Armitage

Pretty crazy to even offer fire insurance to just backtrack and leave all these people in the dust. I imagine a lot of people will be leaving Cali.

Carlos Soto-Ricci

What a terrible situation to be in. Prayers for all the families 🙏

Alan E Ramirez

I don’t have Zelle but want to help, will there be a gofundme for these families

Brittany A
