I met up with a guy to work on his logo and he told me he tried AI logo generators but didn’t like them. I would not hesitate AI for an asset for him — IE generic van image to mockup car decals. While I want to be understanding, I find it difficult to sympathize with these striking Dunkin' employees. Their presentation isn't helping the labor movement's cause. The shift toward AI and automation seems inevitable if both management and customers are open to it. Speaking as someone who frequents corporate fast-food chains like Dunkin', I'm indifferent between using a kiosk or interacting with staff – I just want my order to be accurate. Shoemakers, metalsmiths, carpenters, the list goes on and on. Sad to see Winona has been so beaten down by the realities of modern living that being an illustrator feels so unachievable and non-viable. Living in a much smaller country than the US, the sense of hopelessness in the working class over there is palpable in clips like this; it's really sad. Everyone deserves a fair shot to do what they're passionate about but there are as many people in LA as there are in my entire country (of roughly the same landmass as the continental USA), there are simply not enough meaningful opportunities for that amount of people. Separating passion and work is a lovely sentiment but when you need to work 40+ hours a week to survive, spending time on your passion can start to sound exhausting pretty quickly

this is really interesting to me as i live in australia and work at mcdonald’s. We’ve had self serve kiosk machines for 8+ years now depending on the state. The “goal” of the kiosks are to make the orders bigger, quicker and labour efficient. however there still is the same amount of crew on as there would be if we didn’t have those kiosks. depending on the store, you might be cutting a couple people max

Why would anyone want to employee or purchase anything from you? I get it. I worked those jobs too. But if you’re working service jobs as a career that’s on you. You can move on to something else. Clearly though this person has no interest when confronted with this opportunity. Andrew basically asks/advises Winona to work as an artist which does not provide a lucrative income most of the time but at least you can try and do something that might bring you some joy.
