The endings are the best

You’d think so, but I have family that have been working on their citizenship for over a decade, the system has been terrible for them One of them was picked up by ice and we have no idea where she is, her lawyer is demanding with us to find out, because we have all the documentation of the work she was doing towards citizenship and on top of that, she was born here and has never lived in Mexico There is a right way to do this and currently (and probably under Biden too) has been wrong

Rodolfo A

thats crazy some of them have been here for 20+ years and never bothered to fill out the paperwork to be LEGAL citizens are now crying about them being illegal aliens.

Herkermer Homolka

I think reductio ad absurdum is something different, it means proof by contradiction

Shawhin Layeghi

The warm filter on the Mexico side footage is hilarious 🤣🤣

elijahmech

We don’t need anyone coming here? Who feeds you bro, your mom?

Tyler Barton

@SSS Yea we know the Spanish conquered and everyone was forced to basically become spanish speaking nations. Either way I guess the people from Mexico-South America are all speaking the languages of the people that conquered them and wiped them the fuck out. Funny.

trythinking

@nathan get real dude. that crazy veteran guy was speaking spanish because he was hollering at the non-english speaking criminal invaders.

trythinking

@scooter sasha . . yes most places like when Americans go to their countries though

trythinking

other countries typically seem to want Americans with money living there, though. We don’t NEED anyone to be coming here and especially without bringing anything to the economy, you need to learn english to be a citizen. That is just how it works.

trythinking

just two white dudes yelling at each other for no reason really

inthecosmos

thanks for making these i like feeling like i have a slight idea of whats going on in the world thats not super tainted by a major news broadcasting company. keep doing yo shit

inthecosmos

That is what I mean require ID no ID no asylum. If you are say from a country that asylum does not apply it’s auto rejection. They can’t speed the whole process up but they can improve it.

Joseph Meyer

They can't do it in one day because of the sheer volume of asylum seekers. That is a darker side of the whole thing, legitimate victims of violence have ludicrous wait times because the system is backed up with millions of people who are just trying to skip the normal immigration process.

eric

Why wouldn’t I be serious? Yeah, benefits can go somewhere else: Like funding processing centers for migrants, providing healthcare and education for migrants, and providing housing and transportation for migrants, just for starters. Then, we can get into the costs of allowing unchecked drug trafficking and human trafficking at the border, including crime, loss of life, and quality of life. Maybe everyone else in this comment thread is way more educated than I am about this issue. From my uneducated perspective, encouraging millions of people per year to come across the border without vetting them has got to be overall more costly than securing the border. I’m guessing the cost of deportations is higher now than it otherwise would be because the U.S. is currently digging out from the mess that the Biden administration left. In the long run, securing the border and providing a deterrent to illegal immigration has got to be cheaper than what we’ve been doing this last four years.

Richard Smith

I'm with you here - I don't think this was a well-made point, whatever it was... maybe he was trying to downplay the first truth (that some illegal immigrants have committed violent crimes) and wanted to focus on the second one (broken asylum system), but it felt like he portrayed the first in the same light as most media because he didn’t push back against the sensationalized narrative. It felt like it needlessly gave that motivation credibility. If the argument is that immigration reform is needed because the asylum system is broken, that makes sense. But it doesn't make sense to use incredibly rare violent crime as a primary motivator here when society tolerates homegrown violence at far higher rates. And I'm not even just talking about intentional murder and such - we can just talk about traffic violence for example and how little 40k+ road deaths annually motivates us to do jack shit.

Chris D'Antonio

There are plenty of American living aboard and never learn to speak their language lol

Scooter Sasha

@Richard How about, "What is the appropriate amount of immigrant crime to start worrying about immigrants?" The answer is when migrants start committing crime at the rate Americans do. Otherwise, you're wasting our money with this bullshit

Michael Curious

"Acceptable"

Michael Curious

Why do you think he doesn't speak English? Because he responded to a Spanish speaking interviewer in Spanish? The veteran before also responded in Spanish and I guarantee he also speaks English.

Nathan Breitsch

So funny how Josue's side of the border has the yellow tint and Andrew's doesn't hahahaha

Sam Louback

@Richard Not sure if you’re serious, but if your goal is to reduce crime then mass deportations are a massive waste of time and resources due to the vanishingly small percentage of immigrants who commit violent crimes, especially compared to native born. The benefit is that those resources can go somewhere else..

Denis Lomakin

6:19 is that a scene from sicario?😭😭😭 nigga

kieran

The filter on the Mexico footage is the chef's kiss!!

Mdot Tee

Yes, the Venezuelan guy who entered the country illegally and murdered Laken Riley is “likely an immigrant”. 100% likely. Why is it always, “It isn’t happening,” and then “It’s happening, but not much,” and then “It’s happening, but it’s a good thing,” and then “Why do you care?” What is the level of illegal immigrant crime that is acceptable, and if it isn’t zero, then what is the benefit to the U.S. from allowing it to happen instead of securing the border?

Richard Smith

awesome. as I canadian I want to see the usa/canada version :P

Adil Hooda

Idk if this was on purpose or not, but did anyone else notice the Tony Stark pose at 3:01 ?

G Clarke

excited for part 2

SATORI, THE OBSERVER

> It’s true a small number of violent crimes committed by undocumented people have occurred Yes. And it's vanishingly small. I think Andrew here is not falling victim to the "[any amount is too much](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reductio_ad_absurdum)" fallacy by sticking to the facts of the counterargument, dismissing them, and moving on to point two - which is much more important.

balsama

Who the fuck cares what language they speak?

Tyler Barton

Would appreciate more context at 3:02. It’s true a small number of violent crimes committed by undocumented people have occurred but overall there is no correlation between immigrant populations (or illegal immigration) and an increase in crime, whether that’s violent or nonviolent. You’re MUCH more likely to be the victim of a crime by a person born in this country than you are by someone who came here, legally or not. There’s overwhelming evidence that Trump’s claims of “migrant crime waves” are total fictions. Yes, Laken Riley was murdered by someone who is likely an immigrant. No, immigrants are not a threat to your family.

Tyler Barton

I met an old white guy in Mérida, Yucatan that had been living there for 15 years and still didn't know how to say "coffee shop" in Spanish. It works both ways. Not to mention Spanish has been the primary language in the American Southwest since Spain's colonization. Nice try, though.

Love it

Daniel

Really appreciate the section highlighting both admirations action on the border crisis. As a Latino and a coastie I just wish the best outcome for these hopeful asylum seekers. It’s our governments responsibility to do the best they can, the only way moving forward is by working together. Bring back compromises

Fabio Caciel-Reyes

Very awesome. Get the illegal criminal invaders out of here. 26 years and still never learned English? Get the hell outta here!

trythinking

Amazes me how both sides go to the extreme each way. Like let people apply for asylum online or through the app but you have to show up to a port of entry, you have to be say Haitian, or what ever ethnicity can apply for asylum. Then have a hearing that day or better yet provide more temporary work visas.

Joseph Meyer

lol the filter on the Mexico side was a nice touch. Keep up the good work Andrew

Jacob Roberts

Great work on this coverage! Looking forward to parts 2 & 3—hoping to see a deep dive into how ICE avoids Texas construction. Keep up the solid reporting!

SammieTalls

6:06 Lmao, love his attitude man

Noé Sarmiento

John Lawler

Chanel 5, on they deep dive!
