2025-04-10 23:05:02 +0000 UTCThis thread aged like a fine wine, didn’t it? Turns out more people align with my aforementioned thought process than whatever debased mutant the Democratic party has become. Being unable to grapple with this or find common ground is exactly why you guys will continue to lose elections. Eject yourself from your digital echo chambers and talk to more people offline, it would do some of you a lot of good.

2024-12-11 17:44:15 +0000 UTCProtest voting isn't real. In 2016 when the two most unpopular candidates of all time were running Gary Johnson couldn't even muster 5% of the vote. Your vote won't be recognized as a protest. Your won't move the needle. Supporting initiatives like RCV at the state level and politicians who try and end corporate lobbying and congressional insider trading may eventually collapse the two party stranglehold. Voting once every four years for Jill Stein who only shows up every four years to grift is the same as not voting at all.

2024-09-06 04:22:47 +0000 UTCWith due respect, the reality we live in is bigger than either of our perspectives can fully see. I can't make 100% accurate predictions of what the upcoming years of geopolitics will bring, and neither can you. Randomness will always play a role and huge shakeups are never more than a day away. For example, regardless of your views on the COVID Pandemic, I think we can agree that it came as a surprise to the world and put geopolitics on a very different trajectory than experts expected in 2019. As a scientist, I make a point not to try to predict anything too far in the future, because the future has a habit of surprising us. As for energy policy and oil, much of the developed world is still increasing their extraction and use of fossil fuels while fudging the numbers to look like they aren't, so I don't entirely understand your concern, since the plan you're outlining is roughly aligned with what's happening already. You're right that the world we live in still runs on fossil fuels, and you're also right that transitioning toward green energy will require fossil fuels for a period of time to get started. However, green energy is long past the R&D stage. Solar panels are the cheapest method to produce electricity today and have been for a few years now, so from a strictly economic perspective it makes sense to get energy the cheapest way possible, even if you ignore the environmental benefits of solar. Solar and other renewable capacity hasn't grown to a point where it can replace fossil fuels yet, but it is growing quickly, and it makes economic sense to continue investing in these cheap energy sources that can help secure energy independence. If renewables continue to be this cheap and continue to grow in production, then sometime in the next few years there might be a real conversation to be had about reducing fossil fuel extraction, not just because of climate change but also because it's more expensive than renewables. Yes that would shake up petro-markets, and that could have all sorts of consequences, but those are problems to face once the situation has become more clear as time progresses. Who knows what might happen? Renewable production might stall and send us crawling back to oil, or renewables might get even cheaper and make oil and its related markets obsolete and irrelevant. We don't know today, but we do know that at least today solar is the cheapest form of energy production, so based on the facts that we have today choices are being made accordingly. If the situation changes, then decisions can be changed as well so we can adapt as more surprises come up.

2024-09-04 16:07:06 +0000 UTCKind of a disappointing video. feels badly edited, structured and lacks any kind of depth of perspective. Larry as a host was ok, but barely interjected with anything meaningful - part of the genius of Andrew and this channel in general was the conversations that Andrew and the guys would stir. Feels badly researched and rushed... I dare say that this video is worse than the UK riots. Hopefully some quality control comes back to this channel.

2024-09-03 18:24:58 +0000 UTCChina alone isn't a serious threat, BRICs absolutely is. Being the world's petrodollar means that currency swaps to / holding USD are requirements for settling sales in oil. This is already falling by the wayside and it's helped prop up our economy emormously for 50 years. Losing status as the petrodollar would mean there wouldn't be standardized pricing for oil (we’d more or less experience the 70s oil crisis all over again, which the petrodollar was a response to), there would be liquidity shortages as demand for USD would effectively cease, and because the world economy is so interconnected and convoluted, this would spell doom for most US allies. Not the US itself, we'll be fine with our natural resources, but Europe will implode because it's incredibly understated how much we subsidize them on the whole, and how reliant they are upon the continued success and strength of the US dollar. Which brings me to my next point, you need economic stability to feasibly roll out green energy replacements, you inherently need oil and natgas to manufacture the components of this technology. Developing and improving green energy technology to combat existing pollution, with the goal being to eventually replace natgas dependence on a long-term time horizon, should be done alongside oil production. Curbing oil while rolling out green energy solutions is a logistics nightmare, as Germany has found out after they decided to go off of oil, rely on green energy, and now they're subsidizing their energy needs with coal plants. Geopolitical power dynamics revolve around oil. We are not going to put a dent in reversing the human element of climate change when Asia and the Middle East exist. You're going to fate hundreds of millions of people to impoverished living conditions as economies will crumble as a result of energy crises, crises that will occur before green energy can be mass produced and scale for an entire continent, and wars will break out because of the civil and political turmoil worldwide. Adversaries will utilize this opportunistically and all the while, they will still be drilling. It is civilizational mass suicide. I agree that R&D for green energy tech should be prioritized and implemented in places that will see maximum upside from it, I fundamentally abhor the idea that in the process, we should dramatically reduce oil output. *Economic stability is a prerequisite for green energy production and implementation, fulfilling energy needs (and maintaining petrodollar status) is a prerequisite for economic stability*. I understand why you might disagree with this idealistically, but it is the reality we live in.

2024-09-03 16:27:24 +0000 UTCHi there, I'm a Materials Engineer who specializes in researching technologies to reduce environmental toxicity and hopefully help mitigate climate change. As you'd expect, I disagree with a lot of what you're saying, but in the spirit of Andrew's "Radical Empathy," I want to hear you out as an equal. The US has the largest and most powerful military in the world by a huge margin, and if you include forces from allied countries you're right that there is a de facto US military hegemony in the world. China is certainly a competitor to the US, but I wouldn't really think of them as a serious threat. So my question for you is, couldn't we stand to have a weaker stance for a few decades in order to transition to green energy? We're winning by a big enough margin that I think we can afford to sacrifice some of our lead for a worthwhile long term investment like renewable energy. Particularly since from a national security perspective, renewable energy is the best long term option, since US oil reserves are limited, foreign countries can fix prices on oil or embargo shipments, but no one can embargo the sun. In my view, renewable energy is the best path toward long term energy independence. What do you think?

2024-09-02 00:21:12 +0000 UTCThe Biden administration's attempt to further regulate and oppose OPEC hasn't made oil prices go down, they've gone up as a result of limiting the expansion of offshore drilling and limiting LNG terminal licenses. Also, the only real reason oil production is at all-time high production is because Biden drained the Strategic Petroleum Reserves right before the 2022 midterms and then the US government announced plans to replenish it due to the extensive drawdown. This is why oil has “gone down” in price from previous local highs. "Fossil fuels" is a propagandized misnomer to make people believe we're extracting dinosaur bones out of the earth, and if you want renewables at scale, it requires these "fossil fuels" first, and it requires a runway for the country to properly make the transition, which can't be expected on a 10 year timeline. If the US does not drill, we lose status as the world's petrodollar as geopolitical rivals *will* drill, we lose status as the global superpower, and while you might not particularly approve of some aspects of the US's hegemony and reign, you will certainly not enjoy what happens in the power vacuum and worldwide unrest that follows. I mean no offense by this but I'm skeptical that idealists spouting "replace drilling with renewables now, ask questions later" can truly appreciate how this plays out on the world stage and what sort of severe repercussions this will have on 1, 10, 100, 1000 year scale, more immediate consequences than climate change can possibly achieve. Although judging by some of the dogma, if we were to be starving with massive population collapse by 2030 due to abolition of natgas, I truly believe that the current indoctrinated green energy proponents would celebrate it as a win for the Earth, with the trade-off being any chance of a good life for family, friends, and loved ones. Judging by the Liberal-Conservative Moral Heatmap, this seems more likely than not. Nihilists will always choose the path of least resistance to self-destruction though, which is exactly what will occur if you’re so brainwashed that you think a human induced climate crisis is around the corner on a short-term time horizon, and enforce policy to reflect that.

2024-09-01 22:12:34 +0000 UTCThe only way Trump is considered a moderate is if you're only interviewing guys that make $500,000+ a year or the people that watch their propaganda. Trump/GOP fight for nothing but the expansion of profiteering and deregulation of the economy. To call the democrat's energy policy "apocalyptic" while ignoring the actions of the conservative supreme court and the right's pro-fossil-fuel, anti-renewable propaganda is absurd. There is such thing as coming up with a sensible plan for the future. The Biden admin is already drilling more than Trump had, regulating OPEC and our own oil industry from profiteering off the masses is the only way the price of gas is going down. Therefore, it's sensible to vote for the democratic policies that allow Americans to have options for (public) transportation rather than paying for a car, insurance, gas, and maintenance or taking an Uber. Show me what Trump policies plant a tree for future generations of Americans to sit under the shade of. His primary policies of his last admin were temporary tax cuts for the middle class, and permanent tax cuts for the upper class. Would love to see what policies he followed through with that improve the state of living for Americans.

2024-09-01 06:10:27 +0000 UTCI enjoy and appreciate some good boots-on-the-ground journalism? It’s in short supply these days considering corporate journalists are just rehashing whatever they see on their Twitter feed, or taking a few statements from people present for some event, stitching together a few snippets of footage and then framing it in a way that their employer approves of. Or just getting all of their information and talking points from some talking head in DC. Andrew is left of center in his political views, that comes through when he takes a break in the action during his longer video series and gives his own thoughts and feelings about something. He did great being a neutral party during the Palestine v Israel rallies, Kensington series was wonderful too. We can have fundamental differences of opinion about any number of things but it doesn’t make me respect him any less, I don’t think any less of him as a person, and I think he does good work. My lifelong friend is fairly left of center, if you kick back, drink a beer, have ordinary conversations with people I think most will come to the agreement that what we have in common outweighs our differences.

The most boomer, Southern Baptist conservatives I know are no longer opposed to weed when sons, daughters, friends are OD’ing. He’s already disavowed Project 2025. He is not the evil final boss villain the media has programmed you to believe, he’s reasonable about his concerns for the country and is making compromises for the Democrats, while Democrats aren’t trying to win over Conservatives, they’re just calling them evil incarnate and offering 0 appeasements. This will take a lot of time for you to process, you will have an incredibly difficult time grappling with it, but you will come to accept it before you have the startling realization that everything you were told to believe was a lie. He was never a Russian agent, he’s not a racist white supremacist, and he’s making a concerted effort to bring 350 million people back to the center instead of radicalizing us further. 2024-08-31 16:04:39 +0000 UTCYour patreon is the most reddit comments section I’ve ever seen, it might be a worse TDS circlejerk here than almost anywhere else. Trump is the moderate candidate. All of his policies borrow from status quo republicans and democrats from 30 years ago. Strict border control, pro 1A and 2A. Non-interventionalist, walking back on abortion. Pro-energy industry, which would stimulate the economy vs. depleting oil reserves. Democrat party is not moderate. This was the same party advocating for the sterilization of children and taking kids away from parents in the name of gender ideology. Open borders. Apocalyptic energy policy. Kamala doesn’t even have a policy, she can’t do interviews. The party coup’d a sitting president after denying his senility for 4 years. A lot of you have been so indoctrinated there is no helping you or changing your mind, anything resembling rationality was lost long ago. 2024-08-29 21:47:38 +0000 UTC5 years ago she had an abortion. So did I. If the embryo sustained life then it would have been born March of 2020. I can assume the same for her. There are times I feel guilt but mostly I get sad for women who turn like this because we get to an age where we want to be mothers so we regret saying no but I stand by my gut. It was not the right timing.

2024-08-29 18:28:38 +0000 UTCI feel bad for the Comperatore family who has to constantly see the Bloody Trump picture used as campaign merch. The photo encapsulates the time and place of the murder of those Comperatore kids' dad, the wife's husband and so on. Everything Trump is involved in is a disgrace. Seriously, Lock HIM Up.

2024-08-29 02:33:53 +0000 UTCWhy did Patreon remove airplay from the iOS app? If they had an apple TV app it wouldn’t be a big deal but airplay from the mobile app was the only way to watch C5 vids on the apple TV. Of course Patreon customer support has no answer. Big L. There is no point of subbing if we can only watch on tiny screens. If you have a connect tell them subscribers are leaving and just waiting for the sanitized YT vids to drop so they can at least watch them on their TVs like normal humans

2024-08-29 01:28:00 +0000 UTCAs a jew its so fucking embarrassing. Its a specific kind of man child behavior that I’m sure is every where but def is a thing in jewish communities. They never leave the community that coddles their fragile golden child ego.
