Had to sub when I saw you were doing a series on Ocean City. For a winter after college I moved there with my mom who was raised there/Philly and it was just the strangest thing to me (coming from California, then St. Louis before that). The way you have to go all the way across the bridge and the first thing on the other side was a liquor store and a bar was too funny. Weirdest winter of my life, every place in your video I've been to but in the off season. Can't wait to see the rest!

A lot of my family has grown up in the area. I was a lifeguard in Atlantic City and Ocean city. I used to work on the lifeguard stand in this video, the surfing beach. Holy shit. As an Irish catholic who grew up outside of Philly and goes to temple. And works “down the shore” living with my mum mum in ocnj every summer these past few episodes have been hitting home for me. I work at blitz’s 21st street. It’s very weird 2 bc in the winter it becomes a ghost town. She is heavy into the drawls of Alzheimer’s and is no longer the grandma I once knew. And the isolation and loneliness with the death of my grandfather and most of her friends has sent her into a state of depression for sure. If you ever wanted to interview her it would be mad funny though she has some crazy takes as a teacher for 40 years

As an Atlantic County native who grew up on the Ocean City boardwalk, as I got older I became a lot more jaded of the town I used to love as a kid. Everything is marketed and priced to rich white Shoobies (Philly tourist) and far-right Republican and white nationalists hate groups openly advertise along the boardwalk!!! if you spot a black family walking the boards chances are they’re the only people of color you’ll see that day.

I hope you can cover redlining more! People don’t know how recently it was allowed. Redlining lead to minorities not being able to build wealth by owning property. Today, people in redlined areas are still renters. They have no say over if their homes/apartment buildings are sold. Therefore, if investors want to buy it up and gentrify, the people living there have no say. I’ve seen it happen so many times working in home lending in Pittsburgh. It makes me sick.

So great that you covered this tho, this past year we visited my little brother almost got the cops called on him by the tenants of the house above us for smoking weed because he’s a light skin kid. They said nothing to me and my girlfriend or my brother while I was with him. However as soon as he was alone they all attacked him and his GF, 3 adults versus them.

This is so dope, I visited this town all growing up and saw this happen while growing up. There used to be massive beach parties that used to be posted on a IG or Snapchat account which is what started all of this. Kids from a group of at least 50-100 would travel beach to beach just moving from when cops would try to catch everyone for underage drinking etc. not only that but also being there the cops are super super wild. They accused me and a fellow friend of trying to break into his car because he was Hispanic when he had the keys and saw us lock the car. He initial accused us of doing a drug deal and when we emptied our pockets and said we are staying at a house a couple houses up he proceeded to call backup and made us sit while 2 other cops in separate cars came. This whole process took 2 hours while they sat there trying ti get something out of us. Not only that but they also have programs in place there because of how many kids get caught with substances that you can just do community service for two weekends.
