Professor James Gelvin Interview (Full)

Hey guys,

Here's a complete interview with Dr. Gelvin, exclusively for Patreon. We had a really interesting conversation about the Isreal-Palestine conflict and I want you to hear it.

I posted this as an unlisted YouTube link, because Patreon's video processor has a hard time with these files.

Enjoy!

Professor James Gelvin Interview (Full)

FOR THE TRUTH READ NOAM CHOMSKY White settlers began stealing palestine from its people over a hundred years ago, now they are systemically destroying the open air prison called Gaza. Not particularly impressed by this guy, too much normalising of what is an invasion, originally organised by the British government. We get to watch live the final throes of the taking of a land from its indigenous peoples, a time machine for the history of other cases such as the Aborigines and the native Americans. No wonder they are a bit pissed off.

Joe Murray

I would love to see a follow-up video with professor James Gelvin as we reach 6 months since this initial interview! Very informative interviewee and curious and patient interviewer as always.

Seiji

I don't know if anyone here cares, but I'll just say that as a left-leaning Jewish American raised by a Zionist Israeli father whose mother was a Holocaust survivor, and also my sisters live in Israel and identity as Israeli, this entire situation (for lack of a better word) consumes my mind almost all day every day and it feels like there's no hope. Only a month before Oct 7, I met a super cool Palestinian-American my age who told me all about the injustices she and her family have experienced. I still wonder if we'll ever be able to be friends, because I know how she feels about Israelis. I constantly feel torn between worlds. But I really appreciate this video and what you're doing. I hardly know everything about this, but this seems like a pretty fair assessment of what's going on. (For now, possibly until I learn more!)

nina_B

Thank you Andrew and the Chanel 5 crew. You’ve given us an outstanding factual representation of whats happening and in doing so opened many of our eyes when it come to the geopolitical stage. Thank you!!!! Love from Australia.

Thanks for this interview! I learned quite a bit. I do think it lacked two things: 1) I wish we could have gotten his opinion on Netanyahu and his role in the conflict and whether or not the Israelis would oust him and 2) I wonder if Dr Gelvin can spit any bars?

Luke

Was intentional to cut off Q? Laughed at the idea that u did

feel like you've grown out of the misery brought out by supposed truths. There must have been some real stuff to really put you on your toes and I hope and see that your growth has been happening. Will keep seeing but I must admit I'm happy with you. Sometime you'll transform. Into something grand.

Cristian Ruiz

Hey, I know you guys are deleting comments in order to not engage or address anything further, but you basically took people’s money and ran. I cancelled my subscription immediately after finding out Andrew was a sexpest, and y’all didn’t want to give a refund for the remaining months. Could y’all AT LEAST please stop adding me to your dogshit discord? Fuck Channel 5 and fuck Andrew.

Garrett Rincon

same!

alexis pozo

It seems like he uploads the bonus vids a couple days after Sunday.

Sid Mullendore

Where's the rabbi interview?

Thomas

this is a much more objective perspective than the trash TrueAnon put out on the topic. I hope you take a bit of time so that you can have a more informed followup with an Prof. Gelvin. His perspective around the Oslo accord, Camp David, and the other treaties (some good some real bad) offered, as well as the extremism Netanyahu + Likud has gotten away, and how the mostly secular society of Israel feels about that, would be very welcome and will provide a lot more context on the *why* this response will be as strong as it is

dem j boys really turning gaza 2 zaza

I've heard Christians are considered second class citizens in Israel and are not in Gaza. I'm not sure how true that is but if so if American fundamentalists only knew. Something might b Worth looking into.

Sid Mullendore

Can confirm. Source: I am Jewish and smoke tons of weed

I'd like to understand what...if any involvement/inclusion the Palestinians had in the the original deal for Zionists and other Jews to take over (and migrate back) part of the land. I understand the PLO was involved later but I'm asking about Palestinian involvement prior to the OSLO accords. Or was it really just an agreement made between aspects of the UN and the Zionists? ----------------------------------------------------I'd also like to hear more about Evangelical support for Israel and what Evangelicals, Jews (Secular, Orthodox, Ultra Orthodox), Palestinians, Muslims, etc. believe about that piece of land, the timeline for their beliefs, how they view themselves in this belief and what happens to people of other faiths and atheists when this time comes.

Ti

I've been wanting to join your patreon for a couple years now and I'm not any more financially secure than I was then but the YT clip of this video sold me dude, amazing work, thanks, love.

Marlon Mountjoy

Calm, insightful, and well-balanced (IMO). Would have loved a deeper dive into the arms industry connections linking the perma-conflict to western allies.

Nick Hoare

Particularly someone Palestinian lol.

Sid Mullendore

In all this chaos I forgot about Tomorrow's Pioneers. I came across it a few years back. It's safe to say I think that someone who is NOT Hamas OR ISRAEL needs to take control of Palestine.

Sid Mullendore

your closer has me cackling "It's my understanding that there's some things going on out there" this is JOURNALISM!!! doep

Clownfucker3000

Thank you very much dear Channel5 Crew. A much needed interview. <3

Fuurikazan

I mean I wouldn't say Gelvin is "pro-israel"...

Sid Mullendore

The conflict is incredibly nuanced. I don’t trust the media coming out of Israel and no one is able to independently report in Gaza right now. What is not complicated to decipher is we should be a avoiding WW3 at all costs. The only role the US should be playing is peacemaker. Also, how the fuck are we spending BILLONS OF DOLLARS on these foreign wars. I don’t give a shit about all these complicated explanations on why we’re sending billions abroad, it doesn’t add up.

Moriah

I've struggled to understand both sides of this complicated conflict, but this interview helped. Thanks, Andrew for finding the professor, it's really nice to see you covering topics like this.

Luke Leppitt

Judaism should borrow Rastafarianism's definition of zion, it seems easier to achieve.

Stillavergin

Can you find someone to speak to the Palestinian side this well? Or is Hassan the best we got? KEKW

Oakoka

Yesssss thank you so much. Really wanted to hear all his points. BTW are there weights in front of both of you? You can see them in the first seconds of the video, right bottom corner.

djdeutschebahn

This is why we needed you back, thank you

Gary Eddy

holy shit. I didn't know about Tomorrow's Pioneers. Looking up now .. that is absolutely insane. I'm covering a pro-Isreal event this week, so I'll be sure to put this in Sunday's episode.

Channel 5

Thank you so much for sharing this converstaion with us.

Nolan Wilder

Only at the start of the interview. But I notice that he doesn’t say “terrorist” in front of his descriptor of “organization.” “Why would you live in a place surrounded by people who don’t like you?” No group throughout history, no matter the geographic location, has ever been ok with Jews existing *anywhere*. It doesn’t matter where they go, really. On the topic of terrorist organization with an asterisk - yeah, Hamas certainly educated its people with children’s shows like Tomorrow’s Pioneers. No, Palestinians cannot travel freely in Israel or between Gaza/West Bank because every time they were able, some of them would blow up busses, stab people to death, and indiscriminately kill people (mostly Jews). Can Israel put its people at risk like that? No. Does it suck that Palestinian movement is restricted? Yes. The actions of some ruin it for all, and that’s just reality.

Jori Vajretti

@andrew you hit the nail on the head about dehumanization. This is a book exactly about where it comes from, how it evolved, what tools we use (ahem, propaganda) and how to try to correct for it: Less Than Human by David Livingstone Smith https://archive.org/details/lessthanhumanwhy0000smit/page/n3/mode/2up My biggest takeaway is his theory that for the vast majority of people, killing another is a moral outrage so deep it fractures the soul to grasp it, so armies have to fracture the soul of soldiers to do their job. There were actually specialists brought into the army in the 20th C to help tweak their soldier onboarding to make them more effective killers by messing with human psychology. No wonder there is so much PTSD.

John Leonard

This was such a great interview. I look forward to more content like this!

Paul

What a great interview worth every penny of the sub

Daniel Lee

This is the most informative conversation about Israel-Palestine I’ve ever heard. Thanks for asking all the right questions and finding the right person to answer them

Patrick Melillo

I think it'd be cool if you could reach out to members of the Palestinian Christian community in Bethlehem, but my gratitude weighs far greater than my expectations. I'm just so happy you're back.

Sid Mullendore

I consider myself a Christian anarchist and I'm engaged to a Jewish woman and this whole thing has just been devastating to everyone. The lines being drawn in the sand are hard for us to deal with, both of us being proponents of absolute peace and absolute pacifism. I've been spending my free time studying up on all of this and going down a rabbit hole of the often forgotten Palestinian Christians, the original Christians, and the most based and righteous of all Christians. I pray for all of the confused and aching souls caught up in this, the righteous and wicked alike. I appreciate the exclusive content, Andrew, but my two cents is that this is the most sound minded and educational discussion on the conflict I've seen since the war broke out, and I'd humbly suggest you consider making it available to the public. I wish you had a consistent one on one podcast because I love this format almost as much as the edited videos. Thanks Andrew, peace and blessings.

Sid Mullendore

Surprised you didn’t get him to rap a quick 16

Greg Armstrong

really great stuff, welcome back dude. Looking forward to hearing more from Mr Gelvin
