Whatever the ownership of the channel is like, anything with Andrew attached is going to weight it down like an anchor, even if he swaps to behind-the-scenes. (1) What he did is wrong, (2) it's something that many men may not recognize as wrong because it's so normalized, (3) he should face consequences, and (4) he has a chance to change and face redemption. I find the timing of these allegations coming right after his HBO release to be the most brow-raising. It's natural to rush to the accusers side when the allegations are as heinous as sexual assault, but in this day and age of warfare through public opinion, it's irresponsible to try and cancel someone before the story plays out.

I've been reluctant to join the conversation, but I wanna say that I support Andrew and the crew, and his/they're ability to learn from this. I'm not canceling my sub. He's actually a kid and he still has things to learn. Boy's brains aren't fully formed until 25-32. Yes, this was bad behavior, but he's grown up in a sexist patriarchal society that's given theses messages most his life. A little historical perspective is helpful. Sexual harassment wasn't even a term until the 70's. That means the people raising gen Z isn't aware of a lot of sexism. I'm in my 40's and the number of times I've experienced what he's accused of is in the hundreds, from one night stands to husbands. I have a graduate degree in women's studies and this still happened. Men didn't realize it wasn't cool, even when I told them, and I always had to be the one to enforce the boundary relentlessly. I'm glad that the women spoke out about it, and I'm glad he's willing to apologize and work on himself. This shit needs to change because it really sucks to be on the receiving end. I believe in his ability to learn. He's smart as hell. As a mom of two grown children, boy and a girl, I can also say that they've both been in the position of being pressured. Girls need to stop and check themselves too. Bottom line is people need to learn how to act right - meaning the ability to realize that people want different things at different times and communicate that differently. Also, people change their minds, sometimes someone craves intimacy without sex, and that's all ok. I'm happy that this is a talking point now. The conversation about what consent looks like hasn't been very clear and we need to keep talking about it until it's not a massive social problem anymore. If someone wants to cancel Andrew, they should check all the men in their life too because this is a pervasive issue, not isolated to Andrew. I have to wonder if the whole Channel 5 team might have engaged in this kind of behavior during their travels, and we're only hearing about Andrew doing it because he is the face of the channel. The idea of badgering women until they reluctantly consent to sex is unfortunately considered fairly normal in our society. Just look at most sitcoms from the 80s - 00s, most of them have subplots along these lines at some point or another. Stories as old as Shakespeare show "wearing women down" with endless persistence as an appropriate form of courtship. What Andrew did is wrong, plain wrong and he deserves to face consequences for it. I do believe though that he also deserves the opportunity for rehabilitation, because this kind of behavior is so incredibly common in young men who learned about courtship and consent primarily through TV and movies that set bad examples. If punishment is the only path forward for all of these young men, then we will only create more incels. They were taught the wrong behavior, so now they have to be taught the right behavior, and hopefully if Andrew stays true to his word, he can set example for all of them.

Everyone will feel differently about the situation at hand, which is completely understandable. When you're a victim of a very similar case of sexual assault or coercion, it's hard to not feel personal about this. I think we should all understand that. It's ok to remove yourself from this community for the time being. Although Channel 5 is more than just Andrew and your subscription also supports Sidam, Nic, and Evan. If you still wish to support the other content creators, I think that is ok as well. That being said, Andrew can't take back what he did to these women. His actions are heinous. I think the only true justice that can be done is his own rehabilitation and perpetuation of respect after the fact. He can be better than this, we can only hope that he will be. Once he betters himself and identifies what influenced him to perceive these behaviors as an acceptable means of approaching women, using his voice to create a conversation around the culture that influenced him can help bring awareness to men who may not know better, as well as keep other women safe. The fact of the matter is that when he comes back from rehabilitation, he will be in the public eye, and he should leverage that to illustrate that you must become self-aware of these issues before you harm someone irreparably, as well as the fact that you can be better not only for yourself, but for everyone around you. Personally I think that's the best thing we can ask for from Andrew specifically. It will prevent others from being harmed while also utilizing this to fight this culture that tells men it's ok to pressure women until they give in. That's what these women deserve: a culture of respect for their choice. We can all help change that. Keep talking about it, keep identifying it, keep holding people accountable for their actions.

If someone coerces you into sex after many many repeated "no" attempts and does not give listen to you, then you can ask for money for damages to your mental and emotional health. Human relationships are complex, and people are often afraid to 'come forward' if other victims don't. Most of the allegations are towards being a sex pest (not taking no for an answer, making women feel pressured and unsafe if they say no), and one towards sexual assault - it's likely that victims were too afraid to come forward (as has been documented again and again in cases of sexual misconduct) If my sexual abuser was gaining notoriety and being held up as a leftist icon, I would also be at my breaking point and would come forward.
