Q Shaman Prison Interview

Hey guys,

In this Jan 6 special we get a call from the Q shaman (aka Jake Angeli) who is currently serving a 41 month prison sentence for his involvement in the Capitol Riot.

We discuss his life in prison, the spirit realm, the underground military bases that do mind control, and his decision to enter the United States capitol with nothing but his horns and his spear.

P.S.

This phone call was made possible by an anonymous friend we met loitering outside of the Q conference in Dallas.

Enjoy,

-Andrew, Nic, and Evan

hmmmm is the the untitled film you'll be screening in june the documentary about kelly j patriot you mentioned here??

Cool cucumber mint disco music

J Lamprey

I know it's an old video, but just watching it now. The way he speaks reminds me of a radio show called AM Coast to Coast. It's a lot people deep into conspiracy theories who think they've found the truth. I think that's something that could be studied more, why do people get so locked into conspiracy theories and how can you break them out of it.

Lander

I'm straight

suds

I like this guy, I feel like we could be friends. I don't jive with all the conspiracy stuff, but he's still pretty cool.

Scott M

He is right.

I honestly love the way you conducted this interview. I don’t see why people disliked it so much. You definitely let your interviewee shine and let 0% of your own opinion shift the direction of the conversation. This really let’s you see how a person thinks

Freedom Gonzales

You should get him a genetic test to see how much native heritage is in his lineage.

The Cassilly Chronicles

Yeah if anything it’s corrupt in his favor…

The Cassilly Chronicles

10 dollars he writes a book about his “struggle”, history doesn’t repeat… it rhymes… q sham is grifting even more than I thought and I feel channel 5 should push him on some of his baseless claims on stuff instead of just “uh huh” it. You should look at some Dan rather and go for that type of questions… generally you do a good job with the tiny jabs but you are doing a in person interview.

The Cassilly Chronicles

Racist much?? You do realize women marry, take their husbands last names? Or can be adopted, as was my case? So fuck right off, Jose.

Nicole Schwartz

native woman schwartz. how native are you? 2%? is it the same percentage as the amount of your neurons left?

jose

"ideal direction" = BIAS. manipulation is cool, isnt it. all you want is to censor the possibility of any opnions that arent in accordance with your retard ideology or its acceptable spectrum, u dumb fuckkkk

jose

Letting an idiot make a fool of themselves unchallenged is not the same as what Rogan does, which is to boost and support their views.

Brian Benson II

maybe urs too fixed

Marshall

This guys mind is broken...

JH

Others have put it more eloquently, but I also view this as a tamer Joe Rogan-esque way of misinformation going unchallenged while being further disseminated. Even documentaries subtly nudge their audiences in an ideal direction, but when the information is not fact-checked and there is no end-goal behind hearing #BothSides, then it becomes similar to a Trump debate where truth becomes drowned out and those less critically-inclined are likely to believe the lies.

Cameron A Jackson

legit, what a place to share it. proud of you my dude.

Daniel Martin

If someone didnt pay you to comment this then damson

blazingsword

This was fascinating, terrifying and sad...amazing work!

Jess C

Fuck this idiot. Boring.

I hate to tell you this but fear and loathing is nonfiction

Travis Shoemake

Is he trying to appeal?

Karl

lol and when he references a fictional movie/book Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas in regards to andrenachrome...

Govan

I love how he goes into detail about how he is an incredibly critical thinker who looks at multiple points of evidence and then IMMEDIATELY turns around and says, "I've always known the government was corrupt." Total facepalm.

Buz Lee

Joe Rogan wishes he was Andrew

Matthew Willsea

Andrew, when the hell are we gonna be able to buy that JACKET?

Michael Talavera

can't wait for your next interview

If Andrew and others followed your mindset we would NOT be successful in beating back these conspiracy theories or political threats to our democracy. We have a marketplace of ideas and all must be allowed to show their thoughts. If we try to regulate which ideas are allowed in which are not; then the outlawed conspiracy theories would only thrive and gain more notoriety. We have to allow everyone a (non-violent) platform otherwise the divide gets deeper.

Jackson Alexander

I got super curious about adrenochrome... it's just oxidized adrenaline (wild that Q Shaman knows that) but it has no known psychoactive properties. Back in the 50's & 60's it was researched as a potential cause of schizophrenia (it isn't) which might have been where Hunter S. Thompson got the idea to make it his fictional mega-psychedelic. Also, at the upper limit, during extreme fear/stress, a human body might have 0.05 mg of adrenaline in the bloodstream. But, you can buy adrenochrome from research chemical companies for about $2/mg. Two dollars for the equivalent of 20 individual sacrificial victims. Doesn't seem very cost-efficient for the evil satanic child murdering conspiracy.

Matthew Harrison

How his lawyers let him do this interview is beyond me.

Nate Elder

Fair enough to both your points of view, but in my opinion, this one fell short for me.

Tom Lehmann

Does every interview have to be provocative? I just watched this video because I wanted to better understand the motivations of QAnon people and how they think, and it definitely delivered. No better way to understand someone than to let them ramble on and on.

Yak

to be fair, to probe an interviewee with the tough ones, can lead them to be less authentic, put up guards, engage their defense mechanisms etc. etc. Andrew knows what he's doing here. Believe me, if Andrew had replied early on in this interview "just because you dated a black person doesn't mean you're not racist" QAS would probably not have done a Jamaican accent or whatever that was and would have been more suspicious the rest of the interview. Because he sat there and let him ramble on, we got to hear him admit that "my lawyer said I was retarded." That said, a few more intense questions at the end would have made for better entertainment. But I suspect Andrew is playing the long game and isn't trying to burn any bridges. Why get a few extra laughs when you could get him to make some QAS X Channel 5 merch bruh>|???

B3RNi3

Loved the interview. A true testemant to Andrew's ability to be engaging and thoughtful. Perhaps this is what all of his videos look like beofre they're edited down. Of course, one would probably not listen to 44 minutes of the flat hat flat-earther, and of course the QAS is a celebrity of sorts. I could tell since I first saw his AVN awards video (he had just uploaded it and it was the first one I ever saw a few years back) that he has inherited Hunter Thompson's Gonzo spirit–he truly has a knack for that kind of journalism. I can tell that he is going to be so much bigger than what he is now. That said, I only hope that he cautiously accepts his rise to fame, and really thinks it through before using his platform to, say, launch the music career or someone who tried to overturn a democratic election. Nothing wrong with telling a few jokes and giving someone like this guy a platform in the slightest, but I hope he remains treading that fine line, and not letting it go to his head like Joe Rogan.

B3RNi3

This was great.

Brandon Fasse

Perfect video Yall are doing amazing work

Junior Chrysler

Everything this guy said was stuff Alex Jones said on Joe Rogan back in 2017. It was funnier when no one believed it but now it's just sad

Ian Obermuller

i like how andrew is deliberately trying to humanize this person. his ideas are bad. he is crazy. but he reminds me of a weird combination between my republican family members and my woo head dmt friends. im into the psychedelic spirituality thing but his politics suck and i dont understand how you get from such a point a to such a point b. but i think i can see what you're getting into, andrew, and i do think it's a good thing. im anxious to see what the future holds for channel 5. im all in.

Sid Mullendore

you're missing the point

Michael Talavera

I think in this case he probably wanted to get it posted to Youtube on the anniversary of the event

Aperion

I appreciate what you did here, but I don't love how you did it. Where were the hard questions? There wasn't anything remotely provocative about this interview. You didn't challenge him at all. Your flat style works well when your crazy subject is standing next to you—in an environment that feels equally chaotic, but this is just flat. I know you have high standards, so I'm guessing you feel the same. Nothing wrong with getting it wrong, Andrew. But in the future, fail harder.

Tom Lehmann

OmG WhY DId U guYS POSTED THISGUY???!?? FREAKING NUTJOB!!!

Is fear and loathing a legitimate source? lol

Nathan Campbell

"It's interesting how some elements of the Qanon conspiracy are rooted in REAL, creepy government shit, like MKUltra and Operation Paperclip." This is why understanding how those conspiracy theories work is very important. It's not enough to just say "Look at those crazies, how can you believe in such nonsense.." And what you said is exactly how most conspiracies work. You have some truth in the core that all the wacky shit is built on. If someone calls out the wacky stuff and makes fun of it, they fall back to those cores ("The government is obviously corrupt, how can you deny that. The CIA has done shady stuff, you have to be a sheep to deny that.") This is also exactly how they lure people in. You don't go full "immortal vampires control the government", you start with "Hey look at this shady stuff our government is involved in, look how they do that, etc." until you start to think "Damn, everything I believed about my glorious nation is a lie." and become disillusioned with it. Then you gradually introduce the more out there stuff.

Andi

"but he gave way too much air time to some truly insane beliefs." I honestly don't understand how this is an issue. Virtually nobody new is going to hear his ideas and think "sounds interesting, those Q Anon guys might not be so bad after all". This isn't how people are pulled into the rabbit hole, quite the opposite. That's why documenting them without giving them a platform is important, they get to tell what they believe, that's not the danger, the danger comes when they use vague language in order to lure people in. Andrew did a great job at making the Shaman explain into detail just how far down the rabbit hole he went. All without Andrew having to "brand" him as some "crazy conspiracy theorist", that's completely unnecessary because it comes straight from the Shaman's mouth..

Andi

Thanks Andrew and gang, your most valuable skill is giving a voice to everyone, including this guy who a lot of people would have dismissed as not having anything valuable to say when there was an interesting conversation to be had

Jack Kaiser

While there is a pretty fine line, I think Andrew is firmly on the side of documentation instead of giving him a platform. Giving him a platform would be a Joe Rogan style thing where the Shaman was invited to the show as a normal guest like "Here is my next guess with interesting ideas. Ah yes, I'm not sure if I believe the vampires part, but interesting theory." Virtually nobody will hear this interview and think "Hm, maybe those Q Anon dudes have a point after all." The only people who will hold to him are those that already believe what he does. You don't convince anyone by just explaining your out there theories, this happens step by step. Look at Scientology for example: If they told their whole "lore" to a fresh recruit, pretty much all recruits will turn around and walk out of there. That's why the more out there stuff that Scientology pushes on people is hidden from "lower levels" until they are already indoctrinated and isolated and "ready" for the "higher level information". To sum it up, what Andrew has done has the exact opposite effect as "giving him a platform". It shows what it actually is that those people believe and Andrew is very good at making them feel comfortable enough to explain it how they honestly see it. This will definitely wake more people up who maybe had some sympathy for the January 6th crowd but weren't all the way down the rabbit hole yet. And it also gives insight on how those conspiracy theories work and that even reasonable people can fall into those holes.

Andi

It's still surprising the amount of influence new wave spiritualism has in the fringes of the right wing, but covering wacky shit like the former is Andrew's bread and butter so this is a great fit. Awesome work, Channel 5! You would think not moralizing during an interview would be easy, but apparently it's a rather scarce skill right now and y'all have cornered the market.

Grady Burnett

Uhhhhh I listened to all of it and laughed and then also felt bad for the shaman, delusions of grandeur abound. I look forward to seeing more content with the shaman frankly and think it is actually kind of important we hear from him even if everything he is saying is conspiracy

B White

Andy Hackett- one would hope so, but its on public YouTube. There will be significant amounts of people very happy that this guy has somewhere to spout his shite. Channel 5 and AGNB have 'platformed' people with abhorrent views before, but that was clearly edited and shot to show how stupid they are. Reading the reaction here it sounds like this guy is being given favourable encouragement, not helped by the "everything is a meme hahaha" mindset of those who are still very immature. I wonder how much of that is there being a rush to capitalise on the date and the anniversary and stuff and I wonder if the team would do it differently if they had their time again.

Webcop

love channel 5, but this is so boring. who cares about this idiot? is anyone actually watching 45 minutes of this?

dr.castle

Yeah the point of Patreon is not to buy a product, it's to support a creator you think is dope. If everyone thinks that way and unsubs because they think they're not getting enough back then that completely misses the point and we don't have a show because they don't have the money to do the show.

Andy Hackett

To me it's more like he's given this guy a platform to display how fragile his worldview is. The vast majority of people watching this video aren't going to think "This guy has a point", they're going to think "This guy needs help".

Andy Hackett

usually these videos are pretty funny but this one was just kind of sad and boring.

Luxxe

'They went to the capitol. That's what we're supposed to do that's what we always do' Lol

Liam Meharry

I mean this is not the first time Andrew has given people like this a platform.

Warren McCarthy

Wordy ass lol

Milky Cologne

Thanks Andrew, giving everyone a voice helps us understand the world around us! Sad to think that people are that uncomfortable after watching this! Keep up the great work

Sage

They’re not losing “free speech” because the people censoring them are private corporations. You can walk around with any opinion you want. Do not let these nut jobs conflate the two. Conservative media has tons of voices, and outlets. Breitbart is a literal racebait news site that’s been up forever. They aren’t being “silenced” they’re just snowflakes who can’t admit they’re wrong.

I think the video was very interesting. I find it very troubling people want you to debate here. You all need to realize that Andrew is only able to enter these spaces if he remains neutral. If he starts debating guests he becomes like every other news source out there. For all the people who lack foresight and vision: If you want to see how well debates help our political discourse, look at the CNN/FOX NEWS effect on our divide. It’s not like anyone will watch this video and walk away like “wow shamans spitting facts” unless they’re already brainwashed. Andrew did great lightly challenging him but not arguing. Andrew you and your team do a great job, please do not fall into the obvious trap of becoming a Reddit level debate lord. I don’t have the same hatred of the mainstream media many do, Watergate and the Pentagon papers only made news because of newspapers. That being said that’s not the role you should play in my opinion. That being said I love your content and you’re the only people I support. THIS IS STILL YOUR PROJECT. If you listened to us morons you wouldn’t be here to begin without. Even if you cave to pressure, or decide to reformat your platform I understand that too. Appreciate you guys and hope you have a great year. Ride or die channel 5

I haven't watched this, and I'm not going to contribute to the view count by doing so, but judging by the LMAO KING MAKE A DOPE BEAT LOLL comments, I am not sure that the world is ready to find the nuance between study of a troubled mind and "platforming" in a youtube video. I'm a subscriber for a reason, but this type of thing is a miss from me. We absolutely should be deplatforming and marginalising people with these types of views. They don't deserve airtime. For anyone who says "that's how disenfranchisement starts hur dur"- you're literally the same people who think that only fools will fall for conspiracy theories. Enough with the new-wave 'libertarian' BS. Sorry Andrew and team, big nope from me.

Webcop

They don't reciprocate the lunacy until it starts making them money.

Webcop

He’s so well spoken

Michael

the way andrew makes eye contact with the camera is just 🤣

Courtney

If you get him to rap I'll make the beat

Nova New Chorus

Wowowowo

katrina

So much pathetic pearl clutching from people who simultaneously claim this guy is a total joke and also that channel 5 releasing his music video would be “platforming fascism” or whatever like fuck lol touch grass you goons

DP Workman

Y'all legit have the best fucking content. Thank you so much. Fucking hilarious and sad/terrifying somehow simultaneously

Constance Turner

His lawyer said he was retarded?

Darren lafond

Lmaooo had to hit the mute button at the end there😂 ima die if y’all get him to freestyle.

T

Props to andrew for letting the guy speak but hearing him ramble about nonsense just became white noise to me after a few minutes though. Gave my time of the day to an evangelist on the street the other day and it felt very similar.. endless tirades about this and that. Anyway great content nonetheless

Thibault Tresca

At 35:20 he says he's the perfect example of how they neurolinguistically program people... Which is... A weird thing to say...

Logan

to support the creator with some spare money if you're willing to give it.

Jed Gould

I have a different complaint than everyone else here. What is the point of me being a Patreon if you are going to post the Patreon video on YouTube within the same day? Don’t get me wrong I am not thinking about unsubbing yet, because I feel like you are changing the game. But I am just a little confused about this.

Connor Taylor

Excellent interview, made the guest feel comfortable and confronted them with facts in a very controlled way; ppl like the q shaman will never be convinced of anything other than this addiction of their grand delusion of uncovering some massive secret. The best thing you can do is let the guy go on and on... i learned a lot about what is going on in the heads of some of these folks. Andrew killed it- no surprise

Edible_Illinois

V well done, btw. Happy to support. Keep it up.

N Clementine

Andrew isnt the avatar for you and me the viewer. He gets the guy to talk, to explain himself, to wander, and we get to listen in and draw our own conclusions and views with that information.

N Clementine

Andrew's casual style and unbiased journalism allows for honest interviews with people that would normally never agree to speak with a major news outlet. Channel 5 goes hard reporting freaks, flat earthers, Chet Hanks and everything in between. I didn't see an interview of this nature causing such an uproar. This is such an honest conversation that doesn't support Q but rather gives insight on essentially a New-American cult. Jake lets the viewer challenge his ideas just by speaking for such a long period of time. If you can't see between his outrageous lies next to his honesty I can't help you.

Leila

Jesus christ this guy is obnoxious to listen to.

Tim Connolly

I would say that anyone who believes the adrenochrome lie doesn't/ can't actually read. Watching it, maybe...but regardless, the lie came from Q so then it must be true!

Bigfoot Is Right Outside

Nothing but love here, my dude. I hope you guys continue to experiment with your content and push boundaries.

James Uhl

that part killed me lmfao

Harley Carbary

appreciate the response because I honestly had the same thought....you seemed legitimately into the idea lol

Harley Carbary

For sure. We should probably clarify. We aren’t going to, and that’s not something we’d spend our crowd-funded production budget on. More so just got caught up in the conversation, didn’t expect viewers to take the music video thing literally. Valid concern

Channel 5

I hear you. We aren’t realistically going to continuously platform him, make a music video for him, or provide any kind of financial support. Was just an interesting opportunity for an interview, the intention of interview was to deconstruct how someone could come to believe all these things, and figure out how the rabbit hole opened to swallow up and realistically, destroy this guys life and push him into radical action.

Channel 5

There are fine lines between Jake's emotional expressions, scientific classifications, truthful historical events, and outright conspiracies. It's quite a trip to hear all of these topics come out in a single interview. I hope that videos like this serve as a guide to all of us to be critical listeners, without embracing ideologies that are based in fiction.

Matthew

Who would've thought this interview has been controversial amongst patreon supporters. Perhaps Andrew could have challenged him more, but I don't believe Andrew views his work as a journalist as being antagonistic towards his subject matter. Mind you, not doing so opens the door to Joe Rogan comparisons, yet Channel 5 can feel better in that unlike Rogan they don't reciprocate the lunacy. It would be worth doing a piece analysing much of what Jacob said, taking it apart etc. Sometimes laying all this stuff out reveals how nonsensical it is.

playstation69

this is an amazing interview regardless of what the comments say. i see a lot of people saying how andrew didn’t handle the interview all that well and didn’t really challenge him or provide much criticism and just let the Q Anon Shaman talk and spew his bullshit what you all fail to realize is Andrew, Nic & Evan are showcasing the truth of how this man thinks. they aren’t going to open the floodgates to conspiracy theories but they also aren’t going to close him. Channel 5 is simply interviewing, asking the right questions, and presenting us the resulting video. Not cause they want to paint him as a likable guy or someone to hate. but because this is the Raw, Uncut, Uncensored Q Anon Shaman himself telling you what’s in his wild ass mind that we never would’ve ever had the chance to hear on our means or even in the mainstream media. shout out to channel 5, this is the best $5 i spend every month

Ulysses

Great video! In a follow up, I’d love to hear his thoughts about Qs identity being Ron Watkins. It seemed like a lot of his beliefs were cemented in the fact Q was truly a deep state insider (or Trump himself).

Colby McClain

How does Andrew & team do it? Another great video!

Dylan Brown

Fantastic video

Jessica Miller

I would not feel conflicted at all. Exposing people's beliefs and ideologies is how we can understand perspective and grow the conversation along with a sense of humor. Whether you like it or not, there are so many people out there that believe that bullshit and they do it thinking they have good intentions. In my opinion, its the same attitude some might have to block everyone out with skewed viewpoints wouldn't be net positive for society. Maybe it's the reason why we are so divided? Andrew and team is bridging that gap. I can't wait for the music video!

Joshua Kreamer

Well I made it almost 10 min. before I had to take a break. As a Native woman, he disgusts me. What a fucking poser.

Nicole Schwartz

This is good. For those who are concerned about giving someone like Jake "Q Shaman" Angeli a so-called "platform", I very respectfully suggest reading into John Stuart Mill's "Of Liberty of Thought and Discussion". It is important- no matter how perverse, sinister, evil, or deranged one side may hold to be- to hear their side. It may only strengthen the beliefs and views you have, and why you hold your own to be true.

Dana K

What a dumb motherfucker. Did people actually watch/read fear & loathing and take the adrenochrome scene seriously? It's definitely open to interpretation but literally citing it as evidence is some zero IQ behavior. Hunter Thompson is pissing and shitting his grave.

Ane Rust

Really interesting interview but I agree with the other comments here: please don’t sponsor a Q Shaman music video. I’m all for bringing people with “interesting” takes into the C5 Universe (Hoff twins, Rowboat, etc.), but continuing collaborations with Q conspiracy theorists doesn’t seem like a net positive for society. I think a lot of your Patreon followers (myself included) would feel conflicted about financially supporting this content in some way.

Adam Hurm

Can’t wait for the music vid!! Fuckin amazing work as always.

DP Workman

“You’d prefer” lmfao fuck out of here Custer ass who gives a shit what you’d prefer

DP Workman

I love all the stuff you guys are doing, but I decided to pay for the patreon hoping to see content like this eventually. This is great work.

Alex Butler

I'm very happy channel 5 has the means to experiment with their interviews and try and push the boundaries of journalism. I just think this is a step in the wrong direction. I don't want to see Andrew make a music video with this guy, giving him the notoriety to start a church/cult. There are real consequences to this kind of exposure.

James Uhl

I loved Andrew’s approach. These movements sell themselves by blurring the lines between the non-violent spiritual types and violently hateful. They like to point to people like q shaman and say “See, we aren’t violent or hateful! Thats just a few bad apples.” So when the reporting from the media also tries to paint people like this guy and legitimate nazis as the same thing, it only helps non-hateful people in these movements continue to not see the difference between themselves and nazi-types; thus making the movements seem more legitimate in their eyes. I think Andrew did a great job of trying to communicate in good faith and lead him, as well as other viewers like him, to that see some of the holes in what they are saying without trying to treat them like nazis. I think this is more the approach we need before things can get any better. People like q shaman have a long road ahead of them but the first step is getting them to separate themselves from the violent types that ultimately they give cover to.

ZD

Channel 5 absolutely has an agenda, if their content wasn't interesting or thought provoking people wouldn't watch it. The "Tell you exactly what they really believe" content that makes this channel great doesn't work with a conspiracy theory that's shouting from the roof top "Overthrow the government, kill your pedophile politicians". I completely appreciate providing context and sympathy to misunderstood people, but not when those people are actively advocating for lies that perpetuate violence.

James Uhl

I also wish more people possessed Andrew style and ability to communicate.

Sierra

My aunt is this far gone too but she never talks about Linkin Park.

Sierra

This is some really exceptional journalism. Love to see the great things you're doing. Wonderful exposition.

Oden

Channel 5 doesn’t have an agenda, they just stick the mic in front of someone and let their beliefs speak for themselves. It would be out of character for Andrew to start debating him now. This is what I love about Channel 5. People are willing to tell you exactly what they really believe if they think they’re among someone like-minded.

Sam C

Oh my god. This is incredible.

Daniel Hupp

I think it's a tricky situation interviewing someone like this. With a conspiracy as muddled and far-reaching as Qanon, if Andrew was to try and bring up critiques of each individual point, the interview would have gone so long as to not be digestible. See how almost every question Andrew asked the guy was answered with a lot of shit he could've asked follow-up questions to, but didn't. I don't think that was a bad thing persay. The goal of this interview seemed to be primarily to understand the person behind the Qanon Shaman. He has a name, he has a life. He fell down this rabbit hole somehow, and understanding that descent is crucial in a world of people that spend more and more of their lives online. And it's uncut in a way that's necessary. Left wing media wants you to believe he's a militant white supremacist, and the right wing media wants you to believe he's some Antifa secret-agent. Fuck that, here's a piece of media that gets closer to the more human, more strange truth. It helps show how anyone can be susceptible to misinformation, psyop like Qanon possibly was. One place violence comes from is ignorance, and no one on earth is all-knowing.

Benjamin Jones

But we don't fuck with custers!

Tony

It's interesting how some elements of the Qanon conspiracy are rooted in REAL, creepy government shit, like MKUltra and Operation Paperclip. It seems to be that it starts with at least a small amount of truth, but then veers down into a lot of false information. And how Qanon is constructed like a puzzle that followers have to rationalize themselves makes it addictive and seals up the entrance to the rabbit hole. I'm no expert, but I think that interviewing all sorts of people, be them Crips, Conspiracy theorists, left-wing activists, Frat Boys, WHOEVER, is a very good thing. Don't let frightening viewpoints mutate on some message board, expose them to debate and discussion. Radicalization is not on the platform, it's on the people who perhaps would have drifted that way anyway. Besides, now those who harbor "crazy", even dangerous beliefs AND those who do not or are opposed all have one, tangible source to frame a discussion on (at least to start with).

Benjamin Jones

"If people think you eat babies it's over for your career and social life" -Andrew Callaghan, Channel 5. (Can we get that on a t-shirt for the next merch drop?)

DW

I've always appreciated Andrew's style of interviewing, but in this particular instance I am very disappointed with the execution. I know Andrew did his best to press him on some of his more extreme beliefs and highlight his preference for non-violence, but he gave way too much air time to some truly insane beliefs. He made countless claims that form the basis for violent extremism and Andrew let them slide unopposed. People with this magnitude of delusions don't compromise or find a middle ground with given the chance to explain themselves, they prey on it. They prey on the politeness and tolerance of others to create further exposure of their extremism that has no tolerance itself. Ultimately, this kind of air time gives exposure and legitimacy to ideas that others will use to incite violence. I know there needs to be an overhaul of the way we create and consume media, and I greatly appreciate what Channel 5 is doing to innovate, but this scares me a lot. I am genuinely terrified that giving this guy exposure with only moderate criticism is going to elevate his status that will give him the platform to manipulate others and eventually get people hurt. I hope I'm wrong, and I hope channel 5 has thought through what they are doing.

James Uhl

I think there's a good book on this called Down the Rabbit Hole. It tracks how conspiracy theories work and briefly touches on the overlap between different flavors of conspricism.

David

Wow, fantastic interview! Love how you all got some comedic shots and backgrounds in once in a while too. I felt like Andrew was vibing with him too much at the end though 😂

Nat04

Great interview. but can you explain your rig? How'd you get such good quality audio from a cell phone haha

David Haddad

my thoughts exactly - he's this eccentric guy who clearly could have gone down a different path in life entirely, but so much of what he says is just regurgitated talking points. the part where he's talking about "woke is broke" is, ironically, a talking point straight from the right wing media

The Worst of all Possible Worlds

I thought so too I'm quite detached from politics which is why I don't get into that shit. I'm into psychedelics and all that but I don't get myself completely tied into these intense conspiracies. XD especially political stuff where he got even deeper past that.

Kyle Smith

Crazy how some of the right wing conspiracies have been able to hijack the paranoid hippie mindset recently. There’s a part in there where he’s talking about psychedelics and wanting to reconnect with Native American shamanism, you’d assume this is a guy that would either would be extreme left or completely detached from politics. And he says he was completely detached from politics... until Pizza Gate. Wow.

Allen

Listening to more of this and he got hella deep in this xD and this is why I don't get into political stuff. The very beginning I was totally cool with because it's what I believed in and it was just a simple stuff like native Americans peyote plant medicine the simple kind of stuff. And this guy got really deep into shit that I've never even heard of xD I'm not necessarily against this interview since I believe in free speech but it is definitely quite different that's for sure.

Kyle Smith

oh.my.GOD. He wants to start his church...why is this not a surprise.

Gabriella Smola

This guy is so self-absorbed and delusional. The FIRST word he said when you asked him to define SHAMANISM was "PRAISED" lmao what a chode

Magic Plants

Everyone ia searching for meaning in the course of a lifetime. The government has been unwilling, especially the last 40 years, to provided material stability to it's citizens. Because of this people are ground into dust in their pursuit of meaning and purpose and will latch onto whatever they can to be fulfilled even if it's misguided. If the social saftey net can be restored we can start to channel this energy into a collective good. Also, I imagine this interview kind of sounds like if you time traveled and interviewed a serf working their lords land in 1100AD in Normandy. He or she would have similar rationalizations for their downtrodden station in life. Magic, the occult, blood libel and so on.

G Money

hunter s thompson MADE UP adrenochrom. like he made up lot's of stuff in his writing.

ignatius

first time I saw Andrew break his cool character lol! he couldn't hold his laugh back.

Gabriella Smola

red pill, blue pill.. then there's the stupid conspiracy goohead pill. all this shit is crazy and it's hard to listen to because it's just so dumb and sad to think of someone believing all this crap and mixing it up in a big conspiracy soup but he's far from alone in believing all this nonsense to the point of fucking up his and other people's lives.

ignatius

yea, agree. You can tell he really believes what he's spouting though. I'm not surprised he's not remorseful. But you're right, there's no saving this guy. Too far gone...

Brett Moore

After seeing this point , the work your team is doing , I had to sign up to give. So good with your work. So much talent. Keep it going!

Matthew Taylor

I am half way through and maaan this guy is down the rabbit hole...like he will never come back from this.

Gabriella Smola

I like the interviews on this channel because they show that these conspiracy theorist alt righters are all just normal people. At the end of the day the real enemy is the people that have misled these lost souls; these people are just victims. I see no harm in letting these people have a voice, and I think the odds of someone listening to this interview and becoming indoctrinated is very low. If anything I think letting someone like this present his opinions in a non-judgemental manner is the best way to highlight how insane these views are.

yellow boar

Just because he has very different ideals than others ,doesn't mean that it should be a bad thing. It's the very thing a lot of people have been getting annoyed with is getting deplatformed for speaking their own mind. It's no wonder why we are losing free speech in this country. I don't mind what his views are and neither should others mind. This is just journalism that isn't being biased and trying to censor people all the time the very thing that we are all Fighting for. Although I'm not into getting into politics and deep state stuff, but interesting to hear it on this.

Kyle Smith

I feel like the difference between a normal sane person and people like this dude is that although we both know that the world and politics are messed up they went too nutty with the explanation thinking it is all a well oiled operation led by Hillary and pedos. Yet, really it just comes down to self interest, money and power for everybody involved. Nothing more to it in my opinion.

Gabriella Smola

@Plamen I think it is a great question. To be clear I think that this is a nuanced discussion. I don't know if I would say that anybody 'deserves' a platform because I think the idea of 'deserving' adds another dimension but generally I think that anyone should be able to share their perspective, yes. I know that I am going to get heat for this but hey that is what discussion is for. Basically I think that when people have controversial or fringe or harmful opinions it is better to let the sun shine on those people and ideas than to cast them off into some dark corner of the internet where they can fester. I think that minds are changed through exposure and discourse and if you ban people from sharing certain ideas then those ideas are not able to evolve because they are not able to be reacted to. Another component of my thinking is that if people are liable to be seduced by a certain ideology than that is on them. For example, I could watch a video and listen to a nazi's perspective and that would in no way entice me to become a nazi. I think hearing perspectives that we disagree with is important because it allows us to find similarities and makes it more difficult to 'otherise' people based on sound clips and media bites which never paint a total picture. Individuals are so complex and evolving. I don't think that this shaman guy is evil even though I obviously totally disagree with his ideas - I think he is confused, and casting him to the shadows of the internet is not going to help him, whereas engaging with him and shining light on his philosophy will. What do you think?

Brad

I have such a hard time paying attention to this video, he is rambling soooo much BS.

Gabriella Smola

I'll continue to support Channel 5. This was great.

Mr. Timn

Andrew & Channel 5 crew, please don't let fears of giving a platform to people with controversial ideas stop you from doing your work as journalists. The power of what you do is to show the world what goes on in the minds of such a diverse group of people. Limiting the types of people or the kinds of topics also limits that power. It is people's (i.e. adults) own responsibility to make up their minds when confronted with your content. As for minors, it's the parents' responsibility. It's not your responsibility. Keep exploring!

Stijn Krooshof

@Brad Do you draw the line anywhere in particular or do you think absolutely everyone deserves a platform? I'm being serious, just trying to understand where you stand on this.

Plamen Bogdanov

You want to ensure do you? Wow. The holier-than-thou attitude and penchant for deplatforming is exactly what is exactly what drives people apart today.

Martin Gaffney

Absolutely. It's one thing to point a camera at the fringes of our society, but it's approaching a point where, if the C5 team isn't careful, this channel will to turn into platform for promoting right-wing conspiracy theories and theorists instead of simply reporting on events featuring them. I'm not sure how comfortable I am about the prospect of be my Patreon contributions funding the post-prison career and further legitimization of a dude who participated in the Jan 6 insurrection and wants to start a church based upon his conspiracy theories.

Corey

I think the platforming argument is childish. If you are going to be seduced by this guys philosophy then that is on you. Andrew or any other media outlet cannot be responsible for shielding their viewers from controversial viewpoints. Of course, do what you will with your money, that is totally your decision

Brad

Honestly, its the lack of remorse that really makes me not have any sympathy. He is a great example of esotericism gone wrong. Homie literally went on the psychedelic journey and came out supporting Trump? Lost souls man, lost souls.

Anthony

Back when you released the merch promo I was a bit surprised to see Kelly and others there and wasn't sure how I felt about it. I know you don't share their views, but having them there felt a bit like making them cool or endorsing them in a way. I'm a bit on the fence about this interview, too. I love your videos and I have an idea of what you stand for, but I feel like there might be a better way to present these videos and interviews so that your message is clear. You have a big audience with a lot of young impressionable people which brings a certain amount of responsibility with itself. Happy New Year, wishing you all the best!

Plamen Bogdanov

not that deep

Kai Hacker

Hey Andrew. Appreciate the work that you guys do. I hope you can clarify though: it seems that you often give platforms to those who share "interesting" viewpoints. Another commenter raises the point of the thin line between hearing their opinions, and allowing them to have a platform. I'm down with this video, but I want to ensure that you're neither sharing your success with him, nor furthering work with him by platforming him. I wouldn't be comfortable continuing to support your work financially if that's the case. Thanks!

Justin McBride

major Jim Halpert vibes

Simeon Ayton

Perhaps if he did less talking and more listening he would uncover the "real" truth.

Aboogie

The “Shaman” has done way WAY tooo many psychedelics. Gut tells me he’ll find his way back to jail after he does this first stint.

guthrie zuehlke

Bruh, the Q clock has KEK on it. How do they not notice it’s a troll?

THECRIMSON FUQER

I feel kind of bad for him. It is obvious he's confused, lost and feels powerless so he hangs to these ideas to give himself some power over everything that's going on.

Pedro Rodriguez

I also want to start my own church....yea, back to rapping

michael martinez

fantastic interview. Jake seems like he's a decent guy who just got caught up in conspiracy theory rabbit holes. He definitely deserves to be in jail but I almost feel bad for him after listening to this. He truly doesn't see the negative impact of the movements he was involved with.

Brett Moore

exactly what I thought

Brett Moore

Wow, still trying to process this interview. Can't wait for the music collab.

Linda Hoang

He thinks he’s a symbol of freedom. Lol

THECRIMSON FUQER

I second this! Especially if you guys are going to drop anymore long form interviews

Lachlan

Great vid guys. So cool to see you go from wandering around conventions talking to guys like this to interviewing the most infamous conspiracy theorists. Really well paced and engaging video. Will be sure to show this to my friends when it goes live on YouTube 😊

Andy B

Minutes 0-5: "fk this guy" Minutes 5-10: "sounds like a reasonable enough guy" Minutes 10-45: "holy shit this guy needs a hospital not a jail cell" -- He's going to come out of prison an even more radicalized danger. Mental health services in this country need to improve.

Ceej

He lost me when he used Fear and Loathing (Fantastic taste in movies though) as a source of his "evidence."

Armalog

Ye but think how dope a first day out freestyle would be (but I agree)

Luke H

The flow of this conversation is extraordinary, and only possible because Andrew does such a great job with being truly present with people. You don’t lead with an agenda and it shows in your work. I wish more journalists were as human as you!

Ashley

I agree. Using money for Rowboat was one thing, but giving the QAnon Shaman a music video? I don't know about that.....

hah i'm with the lawyer to be honest

Charlie

And to think, the first 5-10 minutes I thought to myself he sounds kinda normal... Then the batshit began.

Dirty Larry

I wonder if Jake has seen the "Q: Into the Storm" Doc, and what his thoughts are...

Suitable Alias

This was such a interesting interview and look into the mind of this guy . Talk about a character

Mark van Eyndhoven

really enjoyed this. discussion is important and honestly as kooky as he is, it was nice to hear him speak for himself here. this sets a really good example that alienating/shit talking/ignoring these people only makes things worse, people just want to be heard at the end of the day.

Mateja Matic

Incredible job, can't wait for the deep dive with kelly and q shaman, I think people are gonna learn a lot. You've come to understand why people have fallen towards Q while a lot of America has continued to dismiss a lot of fairly rational, if unable to discern what a trusted source is, people as just "crazy" when there's really a lot more to it.

Wegman

This is literally like talking to my loony coworkers... Talking about everything like they are savants yet they know absolutely nothing. It was very kind of you to listen to him for so long.

Marshall Horton

Really fucking good work y'all

Robert Mathis

I'd prefer if you didn't make a qanon music video. There's a thin line when you make these videos between acknowledging and exposing viewpoints as they are and platforming dangerous shit.

Danny Buchanan

Get a new phone with that pateron money king you don't need to be using one with a cracked screen

This is awesome. Really appreciate your scope and the way you talk to people, keep up the good work!

Nat Dolitsky

Reminds me of this time a gave my phone number to conspiracist from tinder bc I was curious why he had to say. Talked my ear off for almost 2 hours about aliens, Jesus, the kabal, lizards, etc. I was so drained... then I blocked him.

Demonictreehugger

shit bro, why you gotta pass the anxiety stick around? i didnt need to see that.

HB Steury Puget Sound

best video so far. keep it up Andrew

HB Steury Puget Sound

Andrew's slowly dwindling battery without charge was giving me anxiety that entire time

Pete

andrew legend

Indabich

Listening now, this is amazing. I still can't believe people like this exist in the world. Such massively abstract ideas on life and culture and politics. Unreal.

Brett Perry

Hell ya. Would love an rss audio feed for any future interviews 🌚

vanceknoll

Andrew really needs a pulitzer for this one

Nicos Ledakis
