I don’t think these people are crazy at all. Deluded but I heard several good points about the nature of this whole shit. I think they grasp in their own weird way that the government is fucked and everything is fucked. Which we all believe in to a certain extent, calling them crazy doesn’t advance unity, it’s fun to make fun but it’s sad when no one even tries to understand them and dismiss everything they say. They are just people that want to be heard. Granted, that side of the spectrum doesn’t do much listening either.

My parents were born and raised in South Central LA, as was I. I live just South of the 10 now and work as a firefighter for LA. I voted for the recall because those in power have backwards policies that will never affect them, but seriously harm the middle and working class. Anyone who can afford to do so is fleeing the state. Hundreds of firefighters would rather commute from TN, TX, CO, etc as opposed to live in CA. Law enforcement’s hands are tied to the point where they’ll arrest a guy for GTA in the morning, and he’ll be released only to do it again the same day (I was on the EMS run when the guy got arrested in the evening). Nearly all the fires that take place in South Central LA are due to the homeless. Ditto on DTLA. Brand new cars on fire daily, structure fires where folks sneak into a senior’s home/detached garage and burn it down. Literally had a guy walking down Manchester just east of Avalon starting fires (4-5 next to businesses) as we followed behind to put them out (man wasn’t arrested). Having to respond to several shootings (guy in his 50s shot 6-7 times, 18-19 y/o dead, and guy in his 20s shot 2 times in the leg), a couple structure fires, getting attacked by a guy high off sherm sticks, and witness BLATANT human trafficking on Figueroa that NEVER gets addressed all in the same day wears thin on me. Another day had a fire on Pico and Redondo Beach Blvd at my favorite Jamaican spot because the owners told some transients to not hang out in the alley and shoot up… they burned the place. These same individuals tried fighting me and my partner as we’re working on putting out the fire! NOTHING happened to them… I know there are folks who are just down bad because I lived out of my car for a couple weeks, but I made it work. The problem is none of these programs are actually aimed at helping the homeless or establishing long term solutions. Also, you have some folks that don’t want to be housed because of rules against drinking or drugging… you can’t turn the place into a flop house or pimp out of it. Add to that the fact that many people are actually “shipped” out here from out of state or neighboring cities. Out-of-staters come in via the Greyhound station off Alameda, Union Station for those just outside of LA County… Beverly Hills and Santa Monica are notorious for driving folks just a few blocks over into LA. Garcetti and his boys skim money off the top of all these programs directed at the homeless (it doesn’t costs $500k to build shipping container homes. I’d know because I’m in the process of looking at one for myself). Once again they relax in Hancock Park mansions and never have to see the affects of their policies. I’ll admit that he’s looked out for the fire dept in numerous ways (as opposed to Villaragosa), but he’s screwing over the average Angelino. Folks are hurting and why they decide to keep doing the same thing is beyond me. Sorry for the length of this post. Obviously the wingnuts in the video paint a certain picture, but there are many sensible people who voted to recall Newsom. He’s a hypocrite when it comes to covid policies (French Laundry restaurant and schooling for his kids for example) and is “gifted” a multi-million dollar home while I have to work 144 hour shifts at the station to scrape up enough money to buy an 800sq ft home in South LA going for $900k (that some shitty hipster will go $75-100k above asking to get over on me. Wtf do these guys do for a living). I was born and raised here and have done everything right to live a healthy/happy, somewhat prosperous life in the city I love, but the caretakers of this City, and the state in general haven’t done much to improve, let alone maintain either of them… at least not for the average Angelino. I think a large portion of the politically active Republicans fall within this conspiracy theorist camp, making tamer republicans who benefit from republican policy but aren't zealous enough to campaign much more reluctant to be vocal about their political leanings. Like even the two younger girls who seem pretty normal on the surface are subscribing to vote rigging conspiracies. Dems don't really have any reservations about promoting their causes, like we saw on social media with all notable figures and celebs encouraging their followers to vote no. But sane republicans in the same position stay pretty silent at times like this because promoting the recall makes us all associate them with conspiracy theorists.
