Just watched a great little video on the effect of what technology and over stimulation is doing to our brains in regards to creativity and hijacking our freedom to think deeply.
I think about this a lot.
I often have reminders set that are labeled 'think for 10 mins' or '10 min free thinking time'. And its literally for just that.—free time to let my mind wander. We DO NOT HAVE A SINGLE SECOND IN THE DAY FOR OUR MINDS TO HAVE A BREAK...!!!! we just dont any more. Not with out phones + social media. We can ALWAYS fill our time in with this little magic rectangle in our pockets, stealing every free moment of our days. the moment we wake up. the moment we are in bed.
It's truly never really sat right with me and wholeheartedly believe that we need to take better control of the time we give it.
Because it robbing out brains of space. Beautiful, luxurious space.
It's as if we are scared to give ourselves time to day dream. We've been lead to believe that if we are bored for a moment then we are failing since we could be being productive. God forbid we have a thought that goes 2 layers deep. I believe we barely even know ourselves anymore because every moment, every thought and therefore every belief we have is being hijacked. We dont have the space to come to our own conclusions anymore. To think DEEPLY about something.
I've literally got to schedule this into my day, otherwise I dont do it. And even still, it doesn't feel enough.
Great, interesting ideas come from thinking about... nothing. Arbitrary-ness is necessary for great ideas to manifest. Think about it. How can we possibly conceive a thought on our own, thats well investigated, thats been allowed to be led on a meaningless tangent, when we are preoccupying our brains every... moment... of the day. In line for a coffee? phone. on the toilet? phone. at dinner with a friend. phone. its this incessant barrage on our attention that robs us of having any more than 60 seconds of freedom.
I haven't figured it out at all. I have a love hate relationship with this topic as well. But i think about this all the time. How shallow our thoughts really are right now.
Give yourself time.
Learn to meditate even.
Do anything to give yourself space to allow your thoughts more dimension than what they want us to have.
