She’s surrounded by 100+ year olds that make terrible decisions but everyone is okay with that but hold a young 18 year old Elena to high standards for human ‘mistakes’. Technically Damon and Stefan are endangering her life everyday with just being around her and getting her involved in this stuff. Elena said sorry about Andy’s death and tried to do it sooner if Damon wouldn’t ignore her calls. Then her talking about Stefan ringing her is apparently self-centred as if Stefan isn’t Damon’s brother and he wouldn’t want to know that. She’s trying to give him hope. In terms of the mountain situation she called Alaric out (a skilled hunter), gave him a ring that protects him from death and had a plan to leave before the moon rises. She didn’t want or asked for Damon to be there and the minute he got in some danger she wanted everyone out now. It’s been months since Stefan left and she felt like she had to do something since no one else was. People seem to have a problem with her presenting herself as a good person with morals but when she does some little ‘mistakes’ people think it’s hypocritical. The average human is good with morals but that doesn’t mean they don’t make mistakes or have flaws, everyone is human and once again the ‘mistakes’ that they point out is nothing compared to other characters in the shows mistakes. It’s sad some people are obsessed with nitpicking at her. She’s just a young girl trying to figure out life, and her life is incredibly hard. I, of course, still love these reactors. They’re my favourite TVD reactors because you can tell they’re into it and care enough to really understand what’s going on :)

I've always said I don't get why Elena is held to a higher standard than everyone else and gets criticised for the choices she makes that are always done to protect the people she loves. They aren't always the right choices but at least the intent is there. Other characters do the most reprehensible things and get a pass. It's good to see someone else stick up for Elena.

2024-03-03 18:51:29 +0000 UTCI agree with you dont get me wrong; but i think most people hold her to a higher standard when judging her character, as compared to other characters, because she portrays that image of following this moral high road more than any other character does, so when her actions contradict this, it causes people to call out the hypocrisy. Of course nobody is perfect and everyone is a hypocrite to some degree and I think that is what makes her character flawed and more human (which is a good thing)

2024-03-03 16:59:41 +0000 UTCI always interpreted Elena’s plan was just to find a way to let Stefan see her and have him hold onto the hope that they will figure out a way to save him from Klaus. Because she felt like she had to do SOMETHING. I don’t think she seriously expected Stefan to come home with her then. And yes, Elena sort of skated over Andi’s death. Had Elena even met Andi? She probably felt bad, but next to the deaths of Jenna, her parents, and even John, she probably felt general, but not overwhelming, grief. She’s been surrounded by death for too long. And she is so young yet and so not perfect. People often cut other characters some slack but hold Elena to a higher standard. Sorry. Elena has so many detractors that I feel she sometimes needs defending. There is no question that she has her flaws and a bit of tunnel vision whenever crises come up.
