Shuttle '84: Year Of The Jetpack (Early Viewing)

Comments

The MMU itself 'came and went' as it did because the military mission for which it was designed, (the capturing of enemy spy satellites) never came to fruition.

I'm not criticizing the video, just pointing out the irony. Obviously you have to keep things within time constraints, and going down the rabbit hole of how the military has secretly and not-so-secretly funded all of NASA's operations would be an entire video in itself.

14:08 The shuttle's wings were that large because of an Air Force requirement to give the shuttle cross-continent capability and single orbit return capability. It doesn't need large wings to land, tests of lifting body aircraft done earlier proved that, but in order to carry a military payload into space and then return as quickly as possible to avoid threats the shuttle had to have large wings to glide significant distance to a landing site. If it had no such requirement it would have been much smaller, and much cheaper to service and refurbish. Those huge wings with their massive blanket of thermal tiles soaked up the lion's share of refurbishment and servicing costs. Funny thing is, the shuttle was originally designed and intended to make spaceflight cheaper, but ultimately the launch costs for the shuttle were even higher than building and launching a Saturn V. All because the military demanded a larger payload bay and huge wings, despite the fact military payloads ultimately made up only a tiny fraction of the space shuttle's total freight. Ironic. Maybe the budgeteers should have kept their mouths shut, and maybe the Air Force and NRO should have kept their hands out of the cookie jar. Otherwise we might still have a shuttle program today, or even still be launching Saturns. ;) P.S. Average total lifetime cost per launch of Space Shuttle: 1.5 Billion. Average total lifetime cost of manufacture and launch of a Saturn V: 550 Million. L M A O

as I want this production a few things jump out to me, for example, a little shakiness in the video at the beginning.. Of course the commercial in the middle. I think it would be better if the commercial and thanks for the patron support was placed at the beginning of the production, then someone else has previously said Feel that it would flow better if you did a afterwards sequence by showing the astronauts who later went on to lose their life, Ben have a little funny bit about getting the astronaut out of the locker To bring a smile to the viewer at the end. I enjoy the long form videos very much have you ever thought about editing your gemini videos into one long one, I think that would be relatively easy to do. just some thoughts, keep up the great work can't wait to see the other stuff that you will upload in the final project middle of the month best wishes jim PS please forgive my voice typing sometimes it may get in slightly wrong thanks for your patience, and again for your great work.

Jackson I have been a fan of your work for quite awhile. I thought that the concept of the movie was an interesting one. Have you also thought about doing other years or other events that stretched over flights. For example the building of the space station, or Hubble Telescope. Just some ideas for you.
