An Unfortunate Update

Hello everyone,

As many of you are aware, there is another spate of payment-processor crusades against NSFW artists and writers. There’s nothing new about it happening (each year brings waves of NSFW games banned from a variety of platforms or services, usually without explanation or appeal) this one does seem to be on a higher scale than usual, forcing both Steam and Itch.io to put new rules into place to restrict lewd topics. No doubt there will be specific strictures about what type of content is allowed versus banned, but given that the people who ban lewd games very rarely play them before banning them, it's always a roll of the dice for creators, no matter how carefully we stick to the letter of the law.

All of which has caused Luciana and I to evaluate our progress this year on our ongoing project, and evaluate both our energy levels, and how likely we are to break even financially in this environment. As you might guess for this gloomy preamble, our discussions were not positive.

So, we have decided to cancel our work on our upcoming project, 'Commanding Officers'. The thrust (ahem) of the game focused around harem-building, corruption, and irresistable seduction, which would put us extremely close to the commonly-banned themes of hyponosis/mind control and dubious consent. Neither of us wants to put in a year or more of work on a labor of love only to see it banned the moment of its birth -- and, perhaps worse, see 'Paradise' banned with it.

What ARE we doing to do? Well, first, we are keeping our Patreon open but paused until the end of the year, just as it has been the last several months. At that point we should have a better idea of how things are shaking out, both of us personally and for the NSFW scene at large. At that point, we'll evaluate whether we want to continue NSFW game development and determine next steps from there.

Secondly, we'll share our concept art for Commanding Officers, and perhaps the unfinished tutorial, with our Discord server. While seeing what might have been is a little bittersweet, we'd also prefer that it be out in the world where people can enjoy it, rather than not. I know this isn’t the news anyone wanted to read, and it’s not what we wanted to write. We’re immensely proud of Paradise Inc, and the community we’ve built. We sincerely hope this current environment improves, and once again welcomes a horde of new creators to the space. But even if it doesn’t, we’re grateful to have had your support for all this time.
