Why bears? Pooh bear, Teddy bears, Paddington bear...

Hey guys! This is just a fun mini - I was noticing my nieces play with teddy bears and my mom and I were wondering - why are bears so BIG for kids? Teddy bears, Pooh bear, Paddington bear and more...why are they such a staple? So I did some digging for fun and there's a cool history behind them of how Teddy Roosevelt inspired teddy bears, and which other animals tried to be the cool teddy bear (but failed) and such! Thought I would share :)

My late father’s name is Edmond and his favorite animal ever is elephants so that made me so happy to hear!!!!

mandalyn

I love that they’re your fave animal bc I feel like that’s unique 😹

Lydia Theologus

Opossums are my favorite animal so I’m kinda pissed that Billy possum didn’t take off

I love the episodes like this the most. Sure pop culture is nice, but tons of people cover it and no one else covers topics like this and it’s so much more interesting to me

i think an interesting avenue related to what topics you spoke about being interested in is - Cultural History - you could look at popular culture or celebrity examples of less obviously pop culture topics, like for numerology you could explain what different number mean in cultures and then point out examples in popular media/celebrity etc. (like how so many shows use a group of 4 friends)

Omg yes a numerology episode would be soo good.

This was so fun!!

I saw a clip of that vegan guy using that argument, but I don't think that's an equivalent comparison. No they most likely wouldn't eat a living animal but give them an apple and a chicken finger and see which they eat first. Kids don't eat a lot of vegetables anyway, give them an onion or a piece of candy and which would they eat first? Lol. I just don't think using kids' eating preferences is a good litmus test for whether humans are omnivores or herbivores. I just feel that there are better arguments to be made if you wanted to convince people to not eat meat. Not the point of this mini ep tho 😂 I almost exclusively had stuffed animals as a kid, not many baby dolls, and I don't want kids so maybe they're fears weren't completely crazy 🤣

It’s funny because a lot of little towns in North Louisiana all fight and want to claim that the bear hunt happened in their town! My grandparents will swear up and down the bear hunt happened in their town haha.

Shannon what a great episode and unexpected topic! 😂 I love how your mind works and absolutely adore listening to your take on anything honestly! You always immediately vocalize what I’m thinking as I listen 💕

I had a stuffed raccoon that I cried over after leaving it in a hotel by accident and then cried again when I found a replacement that was the same lol 🤣 real bears seem so friendly to me 😫😭 too bad bear hugs are lethal!

I think the old guy in his fifties that was using hgh around 2005 in his thirties is Gerard butler — he would have been preparing for the movie 300 around that time, which he got really famous for

Haley

You called it… someone in a Patreon saying they like opossums. Me - I like them. 😆Good episode, as always!
