2023-09-15 05:29:42 +0000 UTCLOVING this ep! On Taylor—imo she definitely only still attends the VMAs to make a point and “take her power back” after the kanye incident in 2008. For me, I always think she peacocks at that event now shamelessly, because she views it as her event to reclaim. There is honestly no reason for someone of her magnitude to be attending an award show put on by what has been considered (although this show may have revived them!) a lowkey dying network (this isn’t my view completely but i listen to BTB and take Troy’s word for it). For example, she doesn’t even go to the Met anymore, and has attended the VMAs on a somewhat more regular basis than even the Grammys. I know it’s because she’s nominated for the VMAs technically but still it’s definitely much less serious than those other events you’d think she’d attend. I expected nothing less from taylor this year, I even thought last year when she announced midnights was a not so subtle way to let everybody know this is her show. Honestly, I don’t even hate it. I imagine for olivia it’s frustrating to no end, but I think Taylor views herself as still that 18 year old girl that Olivia was when she broke out so she doesn’t care, and just thinks olivia needs to wait her turn.

This woman has been relevant since the 90s and has dropped bangers from so many genres. She started in alternative rock in Spanish and literally broke records. Then moved on to pop and her album laundry service she wrote it in Spanish THEN in English and released it mind you she was still learning English! (Underneath your clothes on this album is a MASTERPIECE) she’s obvi moved on to do the World Cup songs/ more English songs but she has recently came back to so reggaeton and dropped this insane diss track to pique her ex and his side chick. She wrote this song with so many sneak disses on it it’s insane !!! At one point she says I’m worth more thanTWO twenty two year olds (and she drops this line at 2:22 ) referring to piques then 22 year old mistress. Ugh and then drops another diss track with Karol g who is just the most massive Latin American pop star who also was burned by another man in the industry. I could go on and on! Shakira is our goddess ! She has been for literally 3 decades it’s insane!!

Seems like she was doing what she would usually do at award shows with the added awareness of how many eyes are on her now.
