Next week we'll have a celebrity/trending topic focused episode (I want to peer into those Chainsmokers...) but for this week we're highlighting Bo Burnham clips on the internet, and theories galore.

I'd be very interested in another episode expanding on the hive mentality. Using the Amber Heard and Jawny D**p trial as an example as well as the early 2000's with the media normalizing the attacks on Brittney Spears.

2023-01-25 15:05:18 +0000 UTCA lot of what you talk about at the end ties into a concept of “Collective Illusion” where people in a group go along with a view they don’t agree with because they incorrectly believe most people agree with it. Todd Rose is one name in this space if you want to watch/read more. It was studied before the proliferation of the internet but really has become a beast of its own due to bots, group think, algorithms, etc.

2023-01-23 15:30:05 +0000 UTCnow that I have fully finished the ep I have to say that the feeling of the impersonal 'bot' internet is why I love podcasts because while i know its a very parasocial relationship it is so lovely to go oh it's a monday I'm going to go for a walk and listen to shannon go off about jeffrey epstein cause i really relate, or i have no idea who this celebrity is or what this drama is i can wait to be caught up. I should get the audiobook of daisy jones so i can join the book club!

2023-01-22 06:18:07 +0000 UTCI've been doing the phone before bed but no social media and it's been great for me, I had a friendship breakup recently and so most 'social' media makes me quite lonely or overwhelmed, so during my evenings, I try to have my screen filtered, so the blue light doesn't keep me up and download fanfics to my apple books to make me feel like I'm really accomplished with how many books I read, and during the day I love just doing crafts, cooking or making candles with stuff in the background so I'm spending more time doing tangible things. TLDR: At the very least I try to have my eyes off my phone even if I'm listening to stuff, cause the social media part was certainly the part of the internet that impacts me the most negatively

I texted my roommate to call in 10 minutes so I could drink the frozen marg he bought me first (poor college times) AND HE CALLED ME OUT!!! He was like “if you don’t like me you don’t have to lie about it” and I gave the performance of a lifetime saying my friend needed me and how dare he call me a liar?! Anyways I left so I guess it was effective 😂
