I know some people wanted this and others are like "for the love of god shannon please stop talking about taylor swift" so this is a little bonus for those who DO want to hear taylor content!

It was giving extreme mean girl energy and Cams takes left me at certain points just shocked. When cam said “I think Taylor is bi the way you’re bi” my jaw dropped and I had to turn it off. Big ick. Also, I don’t think you can properly do a lyric analysis if you don’t know the lyrics? She literally says “NO DEAL, the 1950s shit they want from me” and cam goes on for like 5 mins saying “she doesn’t explicitly say no so I do believe she’s secretly engaged”. I understand us all having different opinions but I don’t find it necessary to call someone dumb. I don’t bow down to Taylor but I don’t need to call her dumb to get a point across. I’m glad this was Patreon and not out to the public.

And then for one of our chief Gaylors not see it..... what? I hope that has changed since this episode. But now I know why I was avoiding these kind of analysis about the album until now.

2022-10-27 13:49:07 +0000 UTCThe only way lavender haze makes sense to me is if it’s from the perspective she had at the beginning of their relationship- ie before all her romantic songs on lover and folklore about Joe and wanting to get married and have kids. Seems more like the sentiments she has for him in delicate (if delicate is about him). E.g. “lavender haze creeping up” seems like the beginning of their relationship and “only kinda girl they see is a one night or a wife” would also suggest it’s fresh because why would she be a one night after 6 years. The “I’ve been under scrutiny” line also makes it seem more around the rep era.

I was also a tad underwhelmed and wish she kinda leaned into 70s rock alternative vibes with this album coming out of folklore era and then came back to pop, it would’ve been so much smoother. But i think “question” is so much gayer than people are giving it credit for!!!!

I immediately thought about Lily or whoever the Rep&Lover eras’ (alleged) second muse might be –Cam and Tily Nation have made a strong case for Lily. I view “in New York no shoes” as a reference to Cornelia Street “Barefoot in the kitchen”. New York & long distance(? telephones), fighting and making up. Could be Joe but the person seems to be first a friend and the whole situationship (🤢😂) seems more of an accident than a master plan.

While knowing about queer history isn't a prerequisite to being queer, it does really disappoint me as a person who has written several papers and a dissertation on queer history how dismissive people are about the importance of it. Like obviously taylor doesn't have a obligation to queer history, but her use of lavender in a straight context really frustrated me and kind of made me like she was gutting the meaning of it for her own purposes when i first found out about it. It ruined the song for me because of my feelings on it, but I don't hold it against her because I don't think it was intentional as she's ignorant of the history. Idk if any of that made sense, these are just the feelings I was having while the song was discussed

I’m guessing was gearing up for hardball with lover era and then just couldn’t sustain because of the tragedy? Might even be why she didn’t comment on Roe v. Wade bc it was triggering. Idk just a thought.

I really wanted a folklore/evermore writing style album- but pop (Lana Del Rey style pop though)! The thing about 1989 that is so special is that it’s deep and meaningful lyrics, but with a pop sound- which is why it’s a perfect Taylor album. Ever since 1989, Taylor seems to cut corners and the lyrical value of her songs decrease: and the production becomes repetitive and it’s like… we’ve been there done that!!! I want Taylor and Max Martin..Taylor and Banks (younger producers and creators for a fresh sound). Jack Antonoff holds Taylor back!!! And she’s so freakishly loyal to him it’s annoying!!!!Midnights had a great concept and started off so amazing, and then it just went dull. Songs like maroon, midnight rain and labyrinth, even lavender haze, are great. But the others were underwhelming, and the lyrics just fell flat and were cringe. “ I something’s feel like everyone is a sexy baby?¿?” That’s the most horrible lyric ever. Idk what happened with snow on the beach!!! Like wtf was the point of having Lana deal Rey on the song?!!! Didn’t anybody say anything? Like idk how you go from the most brilliant folklore/evermore to this…
