Skimming popular conspiracy theories

Hello, hello! Today we're doing a fun riff on conspiracy theories - happy hour style! I always like when people tell me a 5-10 minute overview on conspiracy theories, so I wanted to do that for this episode. Dates? The games of scientists? The coordinates of Greenland? Who cares - gimme the dirt and the juiciest part of the theory! So here's a skim of some of my favorites theories, some of the most outlandish, and more! Photos accompanying these will be posted later this week, and drop your favorite theory (or most niche theory) you know of in the comments :)

Yes give us a deep dive! I love the happy hour format but god damn I NEED

brit

Krakow Poland has a dragon! Amazing episode Shannon

Jessica

i thought the aliens building the pyramids theory is because they didn't have the technology to lift the stones etc or if they did do it without the modern technology(aliens) to help it would have taken insanely longer and it just wasnt possible. am i getting that wrong?

Im late to the party, but I worked at a science museum that had the traveling Sue exhibit! I’m still obsessed with her to this day. If you’re ever in Chicago you can see her real bones at the Field Museum. My favorite memory with that exhibit was having to crawl into a replica of her skull to turn off a particularly horrible roaring noise.

Mattie Honea

I LOVE these type of episodes!!! Have Jenny on again too!!! I love the blinds but I am the target audience for conspiracy theories and celeb gossip! Gooo Shannon!!!

Becks

I’d like to hear more about the Denver airport!

Livi

I’m just catching up on this episode and you mention Wales having a dragon on the flag. I’m from Wales! I remember in primary school we were told a story that our red dragon had a battle with a white dragon from England and the red dragon won and restored peace in Wales which is why it is on our flag!

Hannah

i’m maltese and never knew that was a dragon on the flag 😂 i had to do my own deep dive mid episode

Olivia Smith

Sounds like Ryan Murphy designed the Denver Airport lol 🥴😵‍💫

Mary C.

Also just in general in rural areas, this applies! My cousins and I grew up playing in the woods in Louisiana and it wasn’t atypical to stumble across old abandoned home lots with stairs being one of the only things standing. But it’s never just stairs, in that situation, there’s usually some sort of structure from the house still there as well. But seeing just stairs plopped in the middle of a forest with no other home debris around would be creepy as hell. I wouldn’t be able to resist walking up them. Lol

Mary C.

my tin foil hat is always on! i want more!! deep dives would be amazing!!!! but i will take skims

Alexis DeLucia

AND would love a denver airport deep dive

Loved this episode, Shannon! Would be so excited for further deep dives! Also, have you heard of the Tartaria conspiracy theory? If so, would love to hear your thoughts on that as well!

Megan Kitzmiller

I love when you talk about conspiracy theories! They are so interesting, I vote for more and deep dives! 😄

Bails

Love the Denver Airport theory!! There’s an unreal Red Room episode about that ❤️❤️

Ciara O Sullivan

Concrete staircases can be used as a structural component of a house. If a house is torn down, the wood and metal gets reused, but the concrete (stairs) get left bc it can’t be reused. A lot of national forests are build on land that was previously occupied by people, and the parks forced them to move (~ 100 years ago). So I think it makes sense that the stairs exist, even if there aren’t obvious ruins, and even if the area is totally unpopulated now! But I get a bad vibe from parks forcing communities to leave…

Julia

Okay I 100% agree w u about QAnon bc that’s basically what happened in thw 70s/80s with satanic panic! I think Red Room Pod talked about this in the bohemian grove episode a bit but there were a bunch of cases of horrible abuse and sex trafficking of children by politicians & the media spinned it into satanic panic so no one would talk about the politicians!

Nora

Can we please get the full dragon episode at some point??

Natalya Stanger

So I unironically did a science project on this my freshman year of college but from an evolutionary perspective the most improbable part of dragons (and also centaurs for the record) is actually that they have 6 limbs. We don't see creatures having six limbs really anywhere besides insects and number of limbs isn't something that evolution really changes over time. Wyverns however (dragons with legs and wings but no arms) or drakes (arms, legs, no wings) or wyrms (no arms or legs) are much more possible. This isn't saying they did actually exist but they technically could have. I know that's not as fun because at a certain point it's basically just a dinosaur but still kinda cool.

Asking for a deep dive!

Paulina Altofová

When I was on a college trip I started two extra conspiracies to the Denver Airport and I swear people have told me my added conspiracy years later, unrelated. I laughed my ass off the whole time as the group ran with it.

as someone who grew up southern baptist... i did not believe in dinosaurs until like last year (when i started deconstructing). i was told dinosaurs & humans actually walked the earth at the same time & the flood killed them not an asteroid. & i personally felt like dinosaur bones & footprints were easy to construct & probably just faked for money & tourist reasons, still sounds like an appealing conspiracy, but i definitely know better being out of the church

grace

drop the whole dragon episode for the patreon. we deserve it

Madisen Emily

There was a random staircase in the woods behind my house growing up! I played on them all the time and can’t recall ever visiting another dimension lol. Bummer.

Chas

This is my jam!

Vane Hara

I’d also fucking love if they actually did hop to Antarctica and then froze to death

Allyson

Tell me why I’m imagining an elevator like in Charlie… Chocolate Factory just chillin in Antarctica

Allyson

A bunch - I think Cam and I will be doing a little recording on sunday about it! I think...hmm. I LOVE Karma, total bop. And I like Anti Hero and Lavender Haze. Other than those, nothing is super grabbing me (yet). I feel like the lyrics in this album are pretty weak, I just remember listening to Folk/more and being sucker punched with every line and like...wow, this is deep. But I like a good pop album! It just feels a bit made-for-TikTok with some of the lines but I know it will grow on me. You?

Shannon McNamara

What are your thoughts on midnights?!
