Simplified 5e: The Mage
Added 2025-08-22 20:37:13 +0000 UTCFor paid backers, here's some reading material for the weekend: the mage class in all of its stripped down glory. I'll be talking in more detail next week about the class features and how the design came together. Until then, enjoy.

I like this. It looks more interesting to play than wizard. Impliments is a fun idea. I love having all saving throws and Potent Cantrip in the base class. The stripped down spells would help with my decision paralysis. No feats though? I would want a way to get more skills e.g. Skill Expert and/or Skilled. What if I wanted one implement that gains multiple effects over time, i.e. my staff? Just for roleplay reasons. I would probably ask my DM to add these low level spells back in: Find Familiar (!) Shield Fire Bolt Longstrider Jump Mage Hand Would shut down spells be given out at high levels through scrolls? Or are you would you just remove them from the game?

2025-08-23 00:12:06 +0000 UTCA small editing error? The table lists gaining Arcane Implement at lvl 4, 8,... The text then refers to gaining "Arcane Insight" at lvl 4, 8,..., but later returns to discussing several Arcane Implement options.
