Hey guys - DD here giving some more updates on Tough Bippy! A lot of work has been going towards finalizing Bippy's animations alongside wrapping up work on a lot of the core gameplay. For anyone curious just how some of these final animations look - here's a taste!

Hey there everyone - I've been sort of trying to figure out how to go about starting a post off now that we're moved in at our new place but I figured I may as well just give some comprehensive updates on everything as it stands!
For those potentially unaware : we spent January moving into a much...

Happy Halloween everybody! Since it's Halloween we decided to share the animations I did for Trigger Treat's announcement trailer two summers ago. Since we didn't want to release a trailer until the game was good and ready to show off, the footage has since been scrapped, but the idea was to make a parody of the old General Mills 2018-10-31 21:27:45 +0000 UTC

Hey everybody! I'll be taking a quick break today, I've got a birthday party to attend! The creeps and creatures of Trigger Treat will resume their march tomorrow. In the meantime, here's the pan shot isolated from the game's opening, which shows off some of the little beasties in a bit more detail. If any of them that I haven't covered yet catch your eye, point them out and I'll talk about them w...

All right, just barely made it in time for today's enemy! DD and I had fun with this pair, we wanted a couple more memorable specific characters and so added these pranksters as a sort of mini-miniboss. We never got around to giving each a distinct gameplay function, but we were pretty certain we wanted bombs to be involved, so I thought this might be a good time to show off the improved exp...

All right! All the bosses have been covered, but before we get to the grunts and cronies, let's cover a few special enemies! I designed Boogedeeboo to appear as one of the few randomized elements in the game. I thought it might be fun to make him have a chance to appear at any point in the game, moving erratically and generally making himself a nuisance distracting the player as they fight o...

What's Halloween without some nondescript slime? The Gooper Ghost is a great example of my early work for Trigger Treat not quite understanding the point of pixel art. He was one of my first attempts to animate a character on the project, and my ethos for the art style was to make it "look like a video game." All this meant to me at the time was limited frames and big pixels. I've since learned en...

Don't let yourself be fooled by her innocent demeanor! Gashley is the embodiment of the collective vengeful spirit of the Graveyard level, which is mainly populated by various skeletons. Even though she's only a miniboss, she might be the biggest of all the bosses we'd planned, and as a result was another we considered switching with her previously-designed superior 2018-10-15 18:01:17 +0000 UTC

It wouldn't be Halloween without some creepy crawlies right? Gummo haunts an endless auto-scrolling hallway in the Haunted House level. Her own attacks were limited to what I called a "cobweb laser," but the player would have avoided being pinned by obstacles of furniture and other smaller spider enemies, which I'll be detailing once we get through all the bosses. Almost there! Gummo was one of th...

Here's another personal favorite of mine! Now we're getting into minibosses, and Jeckle is the middle obstacle of the Pumpkin Patch level. We had some discussion about whether to switch him with Snickywick actually, since he carries a lot more personality and might be more memorable. However, as easy as Snickywick was, Jeckle is such a simple fight as he stands now that he likely would have kept h...

Here we meet the Commander in Chief of our as-of-yet-unnamed Halloween land, boss of the Lab level Doctor Francois. He's definitely the boss battle I would have most liked to see finalized, although the simplicity of the animation I had committed to for the game is pretty evident now that I come back to it. Trigger Treat was originally meant to be a very quick art jam, and as you might have guesse...

Hey again everybloody! Today let's take a look at boss number three, lord of the Haunted House level. Count Dripp is a ruthless aristocrat, and much more savvy about crushing those lower-class upstarts than somebody like Arizona. His strategy is to keep from getting hit, so he only appears for only a moment before teleporting out of harm's way. His fireball bombs are intended to force players to k...

Day two of our complete Trigger Treat bestiary! When I was around five I made a Styrofoam tombstone bearing the ominous name "YOU" and painted it to look like it was bleeding. This was the scariest thing I could think of at the time, and I was disappointed that nobody seemed particularly alarmed by this. Maybe if I had made it twenty feet tall things might have turned out differently. Arizona has ...

Happy October everybody! To celebrate my favorite month, I'm going to go ahead and start spilling the beans on all the work I finished for Trigger Treat years ago. After drawing so many monsters, it'd be tragic not to show them off! I'm gonna show an enemy for every day this month leading up to Halloween, so let's start with the boss of the first area we planned, which as you guys would have seen ...

Hey everybody - been quite some time since we've given an update but there is actually a lot to discuss this time around!
Our core focus has of course been Tough Bippy where we are starting to get some additional assistance with artwork and clean up to speed up the game's development.

I've got a big weakness for food-themed characters. Once we decided the melonhead guys were likely to be in Tough Bippy, I whipped up this durian gangster to go with them. I'm actually pretty happy with his design, and I doubt it'll change much by the time we implement him. DD is very excited to make bosses a big part of the game, and I look forward to animating a lot of fun attacks for him!

Hey guys! Just a little small update to tide you guys over until we can get streams started later this week. We meant to show some animation off yesterday but DD just came down with the stomach flu. While he's been out though, he's been working on getting in the animations I showed off a while back in a new engine for the game. Hope we can show some new developments on that front soon!

Apologies for a brief period of silence! During the past month we were working on a little game pitch just before fully switching back to Tough Bippy. Unfortunately we couldn't speak too heavily about it (and still can't say too much) but we are at least allowed to give just a look at and older build just displaying the raw hitboxes and gameplay. As much as we'd like to show the finished animation...

Hey all! Sorry for the long bout of silence, Ding Dong and I have been working on something we can't show off at the moment! Updates will come on this secret project as it develops, but in the meantime, let's show off some of what I've already been doing for Tough Bippy! For this game I've been animating in Flash, and Ding Dong has been cleaning up these animations and converting them into pixel a...

Here's the last of our playable creatures of the night! I had a lot of fun coming up with this one, I wanted to avoid directly alluding to the famous Creature from the Black Lagoon when coming up with a gillman, which I still hypocritically call his kind. Instead, I took the opportunity redirect any sense of derivation and decided to draw something that could conceivably fit in the world of Aaahh!...

Happy Monday! I hope everybody is happy to be back to their assigned drudgery. Wolf weirdo here probably doesn't have a job! He's probably the playable character with the least amount of character so far, maybe that'll improve as we continue to develop the game? Ding Dong is busy focusing on the gameplay aspect...

Happy Sunday! After a short weekend break we're back to work, and back to showing you guys the first of our SECRET playable characters. TGIF, right guys? Today's spotlighted playable character would feel the same way. Ding Dong designed a devil character as you can see in this older post that I was more than happy to give my signature type of twist. His expression to me read as an interesting combination of snooty, aloof and just plain tired, a...

Day two of promo art week! Here's one of my favorite of the playable characters. We almost named him Sid because Sudden Infant Death but Ding Dong didn't figure anybody would get the joke. He's a little baby reaper, soft spot on his skull and all! His negative attribute is he's too young to know better and goes along with everything his friends do, which includes deadly gunplay. I also feel like h...

I think it's safe to assume that if you're reading this, you've seen gameplay footage of the Pumpkin Patch already! Here's a chance to get a little more familiar with the tileset. As you can see, once upon a time we were working with slightly smaller tiles, but very early on in the development we decided to upscale the environmen...

Been awhile since we had a post here since there's a lot really keeping us busy!
Currently we are in the process of porting all the code for Trigger Treat over into another software, not only just to optimize the game but also to allow the possibility of console ports within the future! We're also starting to investigate the possibility of online play as a feature which is part of why we'r...

It's been over a month since our last update, that's no good! I'm gonna start making visual posts again so you guys know we're still rolling forward. Okay here's the last of the theoretical ideas! When we left Trigger Treat last year, we were toying around with the concept of orbital powerups and how they'd fit into the gameplay style we'd already crafted. I figured it'd be a good opportunity to work in some spooky birds, since they tend to be underrepresented in Halloween media these days. Owls and crows used to be front and center when it cam...
