Mocap Suit and Face capture test

I got the suit unpacked in the new place, and thanks to a friend I have an old iPhone that supports the face capture app for the suit. Slava and I have some dialing in and calibrating on the shapekeys, but if this works it's another giant leap forward in saving time in future productions.

I'll try and see if it's possible to record the voice acting at the same time as the motion/face cap...

All Moved In...

The new house (!!!) is about 80% set up at this point, but my work area is 100% ready to go.

My friends who helped with the move are leaving tomorrow, then everything will return to business as usual, starting with a "Dirty Thirty" (30 days in a row of streaming music/mocap/animation work) to catch up on the time lost to moving and unpacking.

Going for as Traditional of a Look as Possible

As I get close to finishing the animation for the J.J. plush ad, I've been adding a couple of effects and post filters to give it the look of hand-painted cels:

Always Something Breaking Us in Two

Working long nights on finishing this short! As I said before, I'm not very good at animating the reference models manually, so I'm trying a mocap suit for less robotic-looking movements of the 2d animation.

If this ends up looking as good as I hope, all future scenes in AFIS 3 will use this technique for every character; it would be a fun challenge to physically act out every character'...

This is a preview of the next short I'll be animating.

After animating the scene with Bill Grey, I can tell I'm not good enough at manually animating 3d rigs, so I'm going to try using decent mo-cap for the 3d reference models. We'll see how it turns out.

Bill's Interrogation [WIP]

In the process of finishing up mouth-flaps, shadows, music, and foley, but everything else is ready to go. Here's a little preview of this scene's progress!

Almost Done with the Plush Animation!

At about 2.5 minutes long, all the characters have been animated (except for some mouth flaps for Wolf) and all the dialogue (including Wolf speaking Spanish, Russian, Japanese, and Mandarin) has been recorded and mixed. I'll let you know a couple days ahead of time when the ad will be published on YouTube, and thus the link for getting a Wolfgang plush.

AFIS Sticker Series 02 on the way

Nonstop writing, modeling, weight painting, and setting up new scenes this month. I'm taking a short break, so I can get the first 100 packs of series 02 AFIS stickers ready to go. They will cost a little less, and there will be more stickers and goodies than last time.

Those first 100 will probably be ready sometime in July (for patrons only), and I will notify you guys and put the order...

He's going through a little corrective surgery right now, but it's just to make sure he's the absolute best he can be when he hops off the assembly line. Expect an update within a month from today.

"Wolfgang Seamus" Prototype

The onboarding form for Wolfgang has been submitted, with this prototype. The process is identical to the one Rhys went through, so it'll be a month or so before I get a finished design back from Makeship.

Bill Gets His

In this scene, Bill gets detained and "interviewed" by his sergeant, immediately after Wolf's theft of the Greenie. Harsh lighting in an otherwise dark room; this will be an excellent opportunity to really put the new shadow details to the test.

Matt Delano will be reprising his role as Bill. Once this scene is fully written out, I'm going to try and get Jarred Keeso (Wayne from Letterken...

Cornerian Premier-Elect Perry Q. Phoenix, and His Daughter

None of the recent events come as much surprise to Perry; he has some history with the O'Donnell's.

Perry will be voiced by Tyler "Froggy Fresh" Cassidy, and Kim Miley will reprise her role as Fara.
