Red Revolution — Chapter 5: A Blood Debt Paid

That's Chapter 5 of this fic, and with it, the first "arc" of the story is complete. 30,530 words in five chapters. This took about a month to write, too. All in all, I'm happy with it. This'll be the last chapter I post on Patreon until I publish this story on all my relevant sites. I've still got another arc till I complete Volume 1 of this story, so to speak.

There are some setups that are yet to be tied up, like Tatsumi and his opinion/view on the peerage and devils in general. He himself decided to put those thoughts and decisions on pause until he could 1) kill Raynare and avenge Issei and 2) find out more about the world.

Making a massive decision like that from a position of ignorance wouldn't say good things about his skill as an assassin, after all. So, he'll be sticking with the peerage, mostly because he does like them, all things considered.

Please do leave your thoughts on this arc in the comments, too! Once I finish Volume 1, I'll be posting all five of these chapters on my sites over like three or four days to game the system, so to speak. I think it's my best writing yet, but I'm more than a little biased.

I hope you all enjoy! ^^

Sacred Gears are bullshit enough that Tatsumi might get access to some Incursio/Scale Mail hybrid Balance Breaker. Remember, Ddraig knows as much about Tatsumi as you guys do, having seen Tatsumi's life through his eyes.

Any plans for incorporating Incursio into the story? The manga version is interesting in that it merges with Tatsumi and continues to evolve right until the end.

Partly, yes. I've stated his desire to change the peerage system, but the rest of this arc and some of the next will focus on grounding his view in some more reality. Via the marriage arc, he'll see that peerages, being a group of connected people who fight for one another, aren't inherently bad. It's how it happens and the lack of safeguards that make it slavery. You can't leave a peerage unless you're strong. If you do, you'll be doing it illegally and will be hunted like a dog. Granted, the way Issei was made a devil is less than 1% of how people are recruited into peerages. Everyone except for Issei joins willingly—it's much more like a business deal, or devil contracts. But what about the minority who are brought back against their will? There's also the backdrop of the Three-Faction War, the move for peace, and the wrongs of the other factions (Asia being tossed out, the Holy Sword Project, killing innocents with powerful Sacred Gears) that'll inform Tatsumi's views. Above all else, he knows that no one will listen to the weak, so his number one priority for the time being is getting strong and not allowing injustice to flourish where he can see it. That's the best I can do without spoiling you LMAO.

I love the arc I would’ve preferred a little more foreshadowing towards tatsumi’s next goal. I assume it’ll be in regards to devil society
