Suki Progress Report (9/3)
Added 2025-09-03 05:27:11 +0000 UTCBeen a little while since the last update, but I've got some new things to share regarding A Suki Game! Since the core game is mostly finished, this month my focus has been adding in all the missing features surrounding the game. This mostly concerns the title screen and options, which is currently in the process of getting a major rework. I've been adding smaller features like a new option to toggle full screen and set the game resolution, but I've also been working on a larger feature that we had been meaning to add for a while:

What you're looking at here is shuffle mode! In this mode, all the characters have their order and sizes randomly swapped, and you get to play the game in a way that's maybe not as familiar as normal. And beyond that, you'll also have the option to set the order yourself, using the new character select menu I've been working on:

Here you can set the exact order of the characters yourself and play with that new order you've set up, and each character will be scaled accordingly once you start the game. And actually setting up that order is intuitive as well, just drag the characters from one slot to another and they'll automatically be swapped. I plan to add more features to this later (including a way to have duplicate characters in multiple slots), but for now I'm pretty happy with how this works.
I've got some more features I'll try and add before releasing a new build of the game in a week or so, but I'll leave you guys with one more thing. For a while, Mabo has been making brand new drawings of each character to be used in a new title screen, and this month I got started implementing them in the game. It'll still be a bit before the full title screen is finished (currently 7 out of 11 characters have their art fully drawn), but in the meantime I've been working on creating the systems I'll use to animate them floating about. I can't share the title screen yet since there's still a lot of work to be done on it, but I can share this sneak peak of me testing out this effect on Maya.

And with that, that'll be it for this progress update. I've been struggling lately to be as productive as I'd like, but I'm still aiming to get both this game and the Maya platformer to a finished state by October. The Suki game build I release next week is planned to be the last one before the game is finished and goes public, so I'm going to try and get as many features as I can ready for that build so that they can be properly playtested. Wish me luck with that, and until next time!
