Climbing Higher, Building Further (2/5)

Hey! It's been a while since the last post, but I've got a big update this time around. Made some huge strides these past two weeks that I'm going to go over now, and I'm getting closer and closer to finally being able to share new builds of the game.

So the first thing I'd like to share are new level elements that I've added to the game: that being spikes and ladders!

Now in the game, I can have ladders for Maya to climb and jump off of, and spikes that hurt her, knocking her back slightly and all fully animated with the help of a friend. Currently she doesn't actually take damage from the spikes (I'm still deciding what a health system should look like for this game), but even without that, the spikes can serve a crucial role in designing levels by making it impossible to wall jump off of certain walls. And yes, before you ask cause I know some of you are already thinking it, she can also climb the ladders while fat.

So those are the two big additions I've made for the actual game, but that's not all I've worked on this week. I also made a ton of progress on the level editor, implementing all the basic tools needed to add new layers to levels, adding a new feature that'll allow you to directly adjust the colors of a level using HVS sliders, and all of this has now been integrated into the save/load system.

Of course there's still a ton of work to be done on this, but every step brings it closer and closer to the point where I can finally have other people test it out. Which brings me to my next goal: I am going to try and have the first playable build of the level editor ready for patrons in two weeks, and two weeks after that I'm aiming for a free public release that'll feature not the level editor, but a set of introductory levels made using the it. I've still got a lot of work ahead of me until then, but I think now is the time I want to finally start having people playtest what I've been working on. Hope you guys are excited, and until next time!
