Baldur's Gate 3: Tabaxi Mod - Version 0.1

Ok, I've finished an initial playable alpha version of the mod - just the male with one fur pattern so far, but it should be possible to start a game with this alpha if you're content with being Big Floppa (and don't mind the many inevitable alpha version bugs)

I'm still working on improving the models- for the next version, I'll add a 3d fur effect to the tail and work some more on the hands and feet.  I'll also include an ocelot texture, and maybe some other variations depending on time.  There's a known bug where headwear and some other cosmetics are invisible, which should also be fixed in the next update.

After that will be the female version, more texture variants, environmental changes, maybe some digitigrade boot models, and Tabaxi NPCs. I'm kind of warming up to the idea of Shadowheart as a Tabaxi- if I can figure out how to get the engine's anisotropic material to work, black fur might look really good.

You should be able to download the mod in the attachments; there's also a brief tutorial on installing BG3 mods at: https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Modding:Installing_mods . Please let me know if you find any bugs aside from the disappearing headwear issue.

EDIT: Note that you may also need to install the Mod Fixer at: https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/141 to prevent an issue where new campaigns load into a dev map.

Baldur's Gate 3: Tabaxi Mod - Version 0.1

Comments

Could you possibly make Astarion a tabaxi? I feel like it could fit his character, that and I just love Astarion lol.

ItsJustMe973

That sounds like a conflict with the satyr mod- I'll check. Thanks for letting me know.

CobaltOwl

I found a bug where, the head is a male elf head and they aren't wearing clothes. I do have mod fixer, and the satyr race mod, so I'm not sure if they conflict or not.

CasuallyFurryDonut

Saw post on Reddit, had a mighty need, and now I'm here. Time to go alpha test!

CasuallyFurryDonut

Yeah it was cleared up with the two mods there, sorry XD

Realis

I think they are popular, just a little obscure. Biosculpted Exotics got a bit noticed even by PCGamesN if I recall. 8.3k Unique DLs. A lot of furry mods for games are not very easy to find. Like the Midnight suns mod you did, I found it though your patreon only reason I bought that game and I enjoyed it greatly.

Navier

Sorry, it's just these comment sections for the moment. I'm not really much of a Discord guy, though I might eventually start a subreddit or something if the mods ever get extremely popular.

CobaltOwl

I'm still having trouble replicating this bug, unfortunately. Is there anything unusual about your setup- non-English language, Linux platform, anything like that? While I'm working on the issue, you might try using the mod with the latest versions of https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/141 and https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/366

CobaltOwl

I just found a fix for that- I'll release a 0.11 update tomorrow with that and a few other minor improvements.

CobaltOwl

I would love to be part of the CobaltOwl Discord community, if it exists :>

Navier

Anyone else having an issue where the character portrait turns black after your character updates for whatever reason (leveling up, magic mirror, withers)? I've tried the fixes on google, including reinstalling the mod AND the game, but no dice. It appears to be an issue with this mod specifically. Still playable, but a significant annoyance. Love the mod tho!

Dewclaw

I'm working on improving the rigging- I'm hoping to have the eyelid thing and a few other animation issues corrected in the next update.

CobaltOwl

Thanks- that should be corrected in the next update

CobaltOwl

Looks amazing from my short time with it. Blood textures looks perfect and mouth matches to the words spoken from the point and click stuff. Only slight issues are that the eyes seem like they don't full close when you feel the tadpoles effects in dialogue and the fur texture could use a bit upscaling, if possible, when compared to the other models ingame up close. But otherwise, it's looking lovely, keep it on!

Mereel

seems to be a bug with the icon that sets the drow icon to the tabaxi icon if you more custom races installed

Kalraas

I heard about that- if the modding tools are the same as what they released for the Divinity games, it could let me compile some custom materials with anisotropy like the hair materials, which could really improve the look of the fur. It also might allow for things like tabaxi-specific dialog interactions, or even quests. Definitely some good news.

CobaltOwl

Great that your getting to this now. Sounds like BG3 is getting integrated mod support in the near future.

NineTailSymbologist

I'll try to catch a vid tomorrow

Realis

Warlock, tutorial with any skill check, no bonuses or anything.

Realis

I haven't been able to replicate that issue so far. Can you tell me more about where it's happening- the class you're using, the map area, any roll bonuses, etc?

CobaltOwl

I am having an issue with running just the mod where any dialog option that involved a roll will prevent the roll form happening and soft lock the game.

Realis

Poggers!!!

Psy Chuan

maybe you could only do the basic camp clothing pants so whoever wants to play as a strong model could toggle to the camp clothing instead of seeing all the armor models, it's not perfect but is perfectly understandable

Abraham the Heavy

That might not be super practical, unfortunately. Altering all 90+ pants models and outfit entries in the game to support the ditigrade legs was most of the time I've spent on the mod so far, even with a bunch of Python scripts partially automating it- and I still need to do it again for the female pants. Going through the whole process another two times for the strong models would delay the mod pretty significantly. That said, if I can figure out better ways to automate the process when I make the female versions, I might still take a shot at it- though probably not until after I've finished most of the other features.

CobaltOwl

Personally, I'd love to see the traditional 5E bonuses implemented but if that's not in the cards I don't think people will mind all that much (myself included).

Jimbo

Currently, the ability score bonuses, proficiencies and darkvision are implemented, although rather than the unarmed damage bonus and speed burst ability, I've set up a falling damage resistance. How do you guys feel about that change? It differs a bit from 5E, but that's true of a lot of the game, and I've found that I use featherfall pretty frequently to get to hard-to-reach places on the map. The speed burst ability may also be a bit difficult to implement. Though, if people prefer the vanilla 5E bonuses, I'll take a shot at them.

CobaltOwl

that looks great, are you still planning to also do a big body tabaxi?

Abraham the Heavy

Just out of curiosity, what version do you think you'll have add the racial bonuses that tabaxi get such as the speed ability they can use?

Jimbo
