My next anthro mod: Tabaxi!
Added 2023-11-09 07:00:58 +0000 UTCIn a surprising last-minute twist, Baldur's Gate III has surpassed Starfield in the poll for my next modding project. For those who voted for Starfield: don't worry, given the community interest, I'll probably still be creating that mod at some point- likely after the official modding tools have been released and other modders have improved the game, which might be for the best.
I'll be starting the project this weekend, focusing first on the technical problem of modifying the game's 3D assets before moving on to the fun art stuff.
The image above is a modified AI-generated concept illustration, which I put together using DallE3, Firefly and a bit of hand-painting. I'm planning to aim for something very close to this when building the assets- slightly stylized, more like a caracal or ocelot than a big cat in face structure, although with fur options that may include some inspired by cheetahs, tigers or housecats.
I'm also planning to turn at least one of the companions into a tabaxi, although I haven't figured out which one yet. I'm leaning toward Gale; he's canonically a cat lover, which both fits and doesn't- I mean, when have cats liked other cats? Another option would be Shadowheart, who would definitely be cute as a black-furred cat. Having only played through Act 1 so far, I'm not sure if either of their vanilla races play a role in the story later on- does anyone who's played through the full game know if that's the case?

Said decision can affect one of the companions depending on who is with you at the time. Shadowheart however does change in act 2 depending a choice you make with how she does a certain event.

2023-11-11 00:35:49 +0000 UTCI went ahead and changed my vote from Starfield anyway (Game's just been disappointing me), so I'm excited to see how this goes. Baldur's Gate actually put in a full rigged and articulated model for the Dragonborn. So moving the over for the Tabaxi should work fairly well. Can't wait to see it!

My wish list purrrsonally (I'm bad yea..) is to have a 'fluffy' body type tossed in somewhere and tail type options using one of the sliders with the option for saber fangs. And as for npc... Astrion, as much as I don't like him honestly, would make a really good tabaxi. Personality isn't too off, animations and posturing isn't too off. Even (In my opinion) has a not terribly incompatable backstory for it.
