The first step in building any mod is establishing that it's actually possible to modify the assets you want to modify- which, in the case of a character mod, usually means trying to move around a few random vertices of the face mesh and paint a few random lines on the texture.
That first step proved to be surprisingly hard in CP2077- the game's proprietary RED engine has a great modding community, but it's still a pretty weird engine in a lot of ways. Having spent a couple of weekends interacting with it now, I think I can understand why the Cyberpunk developers have had a problem with bugs.
After running down a few false leads, I was finally able to find a solution in the form of a clever hack that another modder discovered a while back. With that technical hurdle out of the way, I should now be able to start on the real artistic work of turning V into a jaguar!
