Undead Legacy for A21
Added 2023-06-26 22:23:17 +0000 UTCI've been asked in many different channels about what's going on with Undead Legacy and Alpha 21 of 7 Days to Die, so I will try my best to explain the current situation of things.
Undead Legacy will be updated for A21 as Undead Legacy 2.7 and as soon as it will be playable, it will be released as experimental version 2.7.01 for everyone, supporter or not, everyone will be able to participate in helping me flesh out the next update to get it stable ready as soon as possible.
Work on updating UL 2.7 to A21 started already 2 weeks ago and this week I've finally managed to get it to load in the game world, which is a huge success, but only marks the beginning of the hard journey ahead of me in updating UL to A21, because TFP have done a tremendous work on this new update and it will require equal amount of hard work and dedication from my end to get Undead Legacy up to speed with all of the introduced A21 changes.
It's hard to say exactly how much time it will take, but I would be happy if it's released sooner than later and to have a functioning and playable version of UL 2.7 experimental some time in 2024 (please don't be upset if it takes longer), because not only I have to make sure everything is correctly functioning with all of the A21 changes, all the things I've been working on for UL 2.7 itself have to be finalized as well.
Regarding the core changes of A21 and how would they affect UL:
- Learn by looting
I'm not adopting learn by looting feature, the books and whole process is confusing, it's better than just spending points in perks and magically knowing how to make stuff in vanilla a20 and prior, but I already had my plans for reworking/improving how research will work in UL 2.7 so that will be the direct replacement for the A21 vanilla recipe progression. More details about it will be disclosed later, but for those who are impatient, as a backer you can get access to some work in progress screenshots of the upcoming system in Undead Legacy discord #dev-log and #dev-talk channels respectfully. - Water
You will still have empty containers and water will work as it currently does in UL, but Jars are going away, instead all drinks will be in plastic bottles to reduce the current confusion between the two, so empty plastic bottles will remain and to ease the tedium (less immersive, but necessary), as long as you'll have empty bottles in inventory, it'll fill them without the need to put them on your toolbelt. Molotovs will require rarer, much harder to find Empty Beer Bottles (or if you'll drink a full one, that's how you will get them too).
Further plans involve coding to allow you to pour inside various barrel blocks / liquid containers any type of liquids, not just murky water, mineral water or beer, etc, for example, with the planned change you would be able to put fresh water or tea in blue barrels or beer barrels etc. - Prefabs/POIs
This one is going to be rough to wrap my head around. A21 introduced so much new props, almost every old POI has been tweaked and improved and a lot of new locations were added, trader locations were completely revamped and I will pretty much have to re-do and adapt to all the changes of A21. That includes updating all the traders and UL's custom Racetrack POI. - Vehicles
A21 brought in a lot of new vehicle props, but sadly none of them are meant to be player driveable and some of them are just empty shells as fillers (vehicles with opaque windows). Most of those vehicles over time I will be replacing with my own assets as repairable variants.
I was pleasantly surprised about the secret feature of police car in A21 and I will be exploring ability to apply this mechanic to most of UL cars in the future. - Perks
A21 introduced several changes to perks and I will be adopting most of those changes into UL in some form or another. - Other stuff and things
UL 2.7 in itself will feature several overhauled mechanics that are coming with the update, among which are research overhaul, electricity overhaul, optional picture in picture scopes, lighting overhaul, more realistic portable light sources, first iteration of volumetric lights, optional floating damage numbers, new blocks, traps and items, UI/game setting customization options and much more miscellaneous things.
As I get the update closer to release, I will post more in detail about what's to be expected from Undead Legacy 2.7.
Appreciate the patience and all the support, huge thanks to all of you, thank you very much! You allow me to keep doing what I'm doing!

Happy Holidays Subquake. I'm glad to restart my membership for the year 2024. I hope that A22 and A23 will be the last alphas from TFP. You deserve a final product to work on once for all. Take your time and have fun creating. Cheers!

2023-12-27 20:18:49 +0000 UTCThis is easily one of my favorite 7D2D mods of all times, and I would love to be able to play it in A21, however I understand that you do not want to rush it and push out a buggy mess. So I am impatiently waiting for it. <3

2023-08-14 01:16:52 +0000 UTCI really wish I could work faster on 2.7, but it is what it is, will have to be a bit more patient :(

2023-08-13 17:06:36 +0000 UTCUL for A20 was the best version of this game I've played and made A21 release seem pedestrian. Happy to support your work

2023-07-14 03:38:14 +0000 UTCNice QoL thing with the barrels being able to hold any liquid. It's just one of those small things that makes UL more immersive and I love that! I saw the assets you posted last night and I honestly can't wait to see them in game. Really appreciate all the work you're putting into this.

2023-06-30 08:09:37 +0000 UTCThe magazine system is flawed and has some definite weaknesses that are undesirable. The decision to stick to the research system you have, which works and makes sense, is a smart one.
