Hello!
To be honest, it was one of the hardest weeks for me. On one side, I've finally achieved a level that I'm happy with; on the other, maintaining this quality throughout whole scenes, even if very fun, takes a damn long time. A choice had to be made.
I could either do what I'm doing and accept the longer time it takes, or go back to the previous quality and keep the same pace.
The first doesn't really satisfy me - I want to finish this game, after all. The latter, on the other hand, would mean I'd have to consciously deliver worse quality just to release it faster. And that goes against everything that makes this whole process fun for me.
A compromise is necessary.
I decided to rethink how I'm writing dialogues. I'll write them with certain expressions in mind so I can reuse as much as possible. I have to admit, it's a bit of kryptonite for me - I have to plan ahead way more than I already do.
Fewer renders per update is pretty much a given at this point, but don't worry, characters will keep moving as always! Maybe not as much as before, but they'll look way better and more consistent when doing it!
There will be moments where characters are going to move more (like combat scenes), which will allow me to be less detailed and provide more renders.
I know I'm often going back and forth with things; I think it's just part of the learning process, so I hope you don't mind me rambling about stuff that changes so often.
I want to work with this strategy in mind from now on. I'll see how it goes in the coming weeks and if I'm happy with the pace. If it's too slow, I'll need to reconsider it again, because 2-3 months of waiting time per update is a pace that works very well, and I want to keep it that way.
Anyway...
Here’s what I’ve done this week:
50+ renders
Thanks for reading, and until next time!
