My fellow emotions explorers it’s time for us to deep dive in the mysterious sea of Love.

This might be one of the most misunderstood feelings, very easy to confuse, hard to maintain, and impossible to live without.

In Ancient Greece, in fact, people believed that there are 8 different types of love.

Eros - romantic, passionate love. Named after the Greek god of fertility and associated with lust and pleasure. This type of love was regarded with a certain level of worry as the Greeks believed it comes with a “loss of control”; a certain kind of emotion that can bring to the surface the most primal of impulses.

Philia - affectionate love. The philosopher Plato believed physical attraction is not necessary to achieve love.

Agape - selfless, universal love. Like when you love a sunset, or God or a stranger. This is a love bigger than ourselves, inviting us to tap into an endless resource of compassion, empathy and kindness.

Storge - familiar love. This is related to family and the warmth that comes with it (if the family is. Not toxic of course). This is associated with protection, with the safety that only parents can give. But even your country can be considered like a mother, therefore this type of love was used to describe patriotism too, or even allegiance to a team.

Mania - obsessive love. This mind be the most spread type of love in the world, together with eros. STalking behavior, co-dependency, violence, all these are symptoms of mania.

Ludus - playful love. Generally is about young, innocent love, where eros didn’t come yet. It’s about having a crush basically.

Pragma - enduring love. This love is about commitment, about communication and devotion, about compromises, patience, tolerance and about building together a life. It’s considered mature love, realistic love.

Philautia - self-love. Of course the self can’t be excluded from love. In fact the Greeks deeply believed that the ONLY way you have to care for others is to first learn how to properly care for ourselves.

Aristotle said “All friendly feelings for others are an extension of a man’s feelings for himself”, but since we’re in 2023 and we’re trying to be inclusive, feel free to change that last part with whatever gender pleases you, the message is still the same.

So here it is, there are plenty of ways to see and understand love, but today we’re talking about romantic love, or Pragma and how Pragma is actually heavily influenced by Storge, which affects your capacity to apply Philautia (self-love). The exercises from the video are about making sure you understand what love means to you and what attachment means to you and we’ll also dive into an exercise to help you change the way Storge has presented Philautia to you.

I’m looking forward hearing your questions, that will help me incorporate useful information in next videos.

Thank you for spending a few minutes with me today! Stay golden! ❤️✨
