Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 ultrawide and wider solution
Added 2024-02-20 15:18:50 +0000 UTCSoon after this game was released a couple of months ago, there was a WSGF request for enabling it to support ultrawide. I didn't own it, so I couldn't be of help.
A new patron has joined and informed me of its free trial taking place. I didn't have long until its expiration, so I tried to look into the game as quickly as possible.
It turned out to be a Unity game with no code obfuscation, so in theory, addressing it wouldn't be too hard. What complicated things is that it didn't rely on the default behaviors and did everything via its own code.
Fixing the game boiled down to reading the code and experimenting with it. There were multiple functions responsible for the pillarboxing, so I had to take care of each. Then, as it always goes, it was not enough to just change it on my end, so I had to come up with a reliable way to turn the findings into a patcher for everyone.
With everything done and implemented, my fix unlocks all resolutions and removes the black bars, which expands the view at the main view and the cutscenes, be it during the fights or the minigames. Sadly, the FOV is vertically reduced at some menu screens, but it doesn't seem to be a major issue worth nitpicking over. Perhaps some would even prefer the backgrounds to fill rather than see the emptiness near the edges.
I'm waiting to hear from the patron on how the fix fares, so for now I'm also attaching it here before making it public soon.
Update: The solution has been tested by the patron to positive feedback, so it's public.
