Don’t Tell Anyone
Added 2023-06-20 15:00:57 +0000 UTCThere’s this song by Semler called “Don’t Tell Anyone” and as soon as I heard it I felt so understood. Semler (Grace Baldridge) is also a pastor’s kid and the song reminds me so much of trying to live my life and have relationships while inside “the bubble.”
Everyone had an opinion about me and I had to care because it could impact my dad’s job which was my family’s entire income. It was an incredible burden to bear as a teenage girl who just wanted to be my own person. Dating was impossible. 😑 In fact, dating was forbidden for me.
But yes, I did anyhow. 😬 And that’s how the lyrics “don’t tell anyone” connect to my life so deeply (although I was dating boys, not girls like she was). Always keeping secrets, always hiding, always being afraid to be found out… just for being a normal person.
I’m glad my own daughter won’t have to know what that’s like.
